Count me in on Farm Truck…

“What to eat: Owners Kris Pepper and Eliot Coven are still plating their winter menu, which features the flavorful grilled squash sandwich (squash, ham, mixed greens, goat cheese and homemade herb mustard on multigrain bread)”

    Yes, please.

Also, I definitely need more beet salads in my life. Youch! I haven’t had one of those since my last at Bridgeport Brewing in Portland, OR like three years ago. I do believe I need to make myself one over the next few days…

Found myself at RTM around noon today for a few, and I wanted to try the meatball sandwich at DiNic’s. So I did!

This sandwich is truly a beautiful thing. I got it with sharp provolone and greens, ten dollars even (I think they’ve just raised either their base sandwich prices, or their topping prices, by a quarter?). The meatballs, while solid enough, aren’t life-changing or anything, on their own, but this sandwich is more than the sum of its parts. And the sharp provolone is key, I think. The greens, I probably could have taken or left. Unlike with the roast pork, I didn’t really notice them at all here. Although I do like the idea of eating something green with such a sandwich, at least.

The couple bites where it was just bread, sauce and cheese made me think I’d order a whole sandwich of just those three components. Yes, in fact I would. But not for ten dollars. Heh. It’s a very good gravy, as I’m sure they call it.

The brisket is next on my list, though I’m wondering how to order it. Though I’m not morally opposed to such a thing, there’s just something about brisket with cheese that I find very wrong. Almost as wrong as I find parsnips. I don’t know how greens will go with the brisket, though I think they’ll probably be less ‘lost’ than they were in the meatballs and gravy. Long hots are a possibility. Perhaps just ‘wet?’ Is that an acceptable order here? I dunno, guess I’ll find out!

  • never had Dinics meatballs, good to know

You know, the interesting thing is I actually prefer both the pulled pork and the meatball sandwich (both ordered with greens and sharp provolone), to the much-honored roast pork here. Go figure!

Brisket, roast beef and the Italian sausage are what I have left to try here. Though it’ll probably take six months to try all three. The brisket is the one I’m really looking forward to, though I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find the other two very good as well!

These guys certainly know their sandwiches, of course…

  • Last week, I ordered the brisket with greens and long hots. It was a great sandwich.
