Whose Chicken, Grandpa or the General?

Yue Kee is a popular Chinese food truck in University City. The menu is super long, and the line of people made me want to chose quickly. General Tso’s Chicken? No. How about Grandfather’s chicken.

Finally my food arrived. For $4 we got a plate with a ton of rice, and some chicken and broccoli in sauce. The chicken had been fried, so it was General Tso’s ish but instead of a sweet sauce it was soy based. The chicken was in bigger chunks, which I liked. It wasn’t amazing, but it could solve a greasy chicken craving for someone who prefers a salty based sauce.

I am waiting for my UCity experts to tell me what I should have ordered…go ahead, guys.

  • I used to eat there like 3 times a week. Was one of the only carts that stayed open until 9 PM and I could call my order in. I’ve eaten most of the menu items.

Ate the Eggplant w/ Pork (in Garlic sauce) a lot. Ginger Beef was a usual for me as well. Singapore Rice Noodles. Beijing Hot Noodles (Noodles with hamburger meat and chili oil basically). Lo Mein. Fried Rice. Egg Drop soup. Hot and Sour Soup.

I think Grandfathers and General Tso’s chicken from University City lunch trucks are pretty much the same… NEITHER tastes like the typical General Tso’s you get at just about any other Chinese restaurant in the city (or America for that matter). Both have that soy brown stuff and aren’t really sweet. I learned my lesson after a few orders, so I tend to stick with Veggie Fried Rice + Pineapple, sometimes Lo Mein.

  • @mwinston- late night hours are always a plus

@lyn- I LOVE a good pineapple fried rice, I should go on a mission to find the best in Philly
