I get my tomato pie fix nowadays at DiBruno’s every so often at lunchtime ($1.50 for a nice big square), but THE best tomato pie I ever had was not the square “bakery” variety. That one came from the pizzeria that used to be just inside the entrance to Franklin Mills closest to Sears/Penney’s. I don’t remember the name of the place but they had this round pie topped with basil, garlic, sauce full of good quality canned diced tomatoes, but no cheese (I always added a little Pecorino). They just called it tomato pie. I’ll always love the bakery pie, but how I wish I could find that pie again.
