PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Dan”
As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, Dan is looking for a new lunch spot to escape his “boring” daytime existence and fantasizes about a life of tapas and siestas…
Age: The big 3-0
Occupation: Boring banking account administrator
Where do you work?: Barclay and Greenwich
Favorite Kind of Food: Pizza. Sushi. Filet mignon. BBQ. Street food. Anything with bacon and/or garlic. Things I can eat with my hands/fingers, or off a skewer.
Least Favorite Kind of Food: Processed foods, fast food.
Favorite Lunch(es) Downtown: Portobello’s Pizza (83 Murray St.), Sophie’s Cuban (for the cheap empanadas, at 96 Chambers St.), a couple sushi places around.
“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often: Like I said just before, Sophie’s Cuban for those cheap empanadas. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of their fried pork chunks as much as the next guy, but loading up on those chicken or beef empanadas are great for a snack or meal.
Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: The Frites ‘n’ Meats truck (check the Twitter Tracker for locations). My buddy Chris gave me the heads up when it first landed just up the street from where I work. I’ve gone a few times and it hasn’t let me down yet. I feel like I’ve got a few things to teach Midtown Lunch about the area though. (Editor’s note: Dan takes us to school on Thursday about where to get a good slice in his neighborhood)
Dream job location (anywhere in the world), purely for lunch purposes, and why: If not NYC for the sheer variety available, I’d go with Spain: unlimited tapas variations during 2hr+ siestas? Yes, please.
Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers?: Can you convince a variety of trucks to swing by west of City Hall more often? If not, where can I get a good lunch south of Chambers, west of Broadway? I feel like I was able to exhaust the lunch options in my area in the first month of my job, and need to find what else is out there.
Anybody else work in the area? Where do you go for your daily cravings? Any suggestions, go ahead and put ’em in the comments. And as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email us at downtownnyc@midtownlunch.com.
