Polish Sampler Plate at the Polish American Cultural Center in Old City

When my girl Steph sent me a picture of a sign advertising Polish food at the Polish American Cultural Center, I ran to Old City at the first possible opportunity. Starting this month, the Center is serving lunch between the hours of 12 and 3 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The Center isn’t quite sure how long they will keep up this new lunch service, but it will continue for at least 2 more months, so you have some time to get down there. The menu (after the jump) has the Polish basics. Finally we don’t have to go all the way to Port Richmond for some Polish Food!

Though ordering a “kielbasa boat” is hilarious, the sampler has everything, kielbasa, pierogies, saurkraat, and potato salad and is only $7.

Pierogies swim in a tray of butter, waiting for you.

The 3 buttery, potato and cheese pierogies really filled me up, but I managed to finish. My favorite part of the plate was the kielbasa. It was different from any I have had; it was quite firm. These are not store bought kielbasa, they are one of a kind! I found out that they are made in Port Richmond based on a recipe from one of the Polish American Cultural Center members.

If you chose to eat at the center, tables are available in the middle of gallery. You can munch on kraut and learn about Polish history, or start up a conversation with one of the friendly members.

A Polish queen; loving the dress, but she could use some lipstick.

I hope you support the fine people at the Polish American Cultural Center by eating their comfort food!
