For a Late Lunch, Take Advantage of McCormick & Schmick’s Early Happy Hour

McCormick and Schmick’s is a popular high end seafood chain. Prices are usually way over the $10 limit. MidtownLunch in NYC recently pointed out the $10 lunch special menu. Philly also has a $10 menu, but I am not extremely tempted by the menu options (though the fried shrimp wrap looks like it has potential). But the food deals during happy hour were worth trying out. McCormick’s happy hour time slots are kind of random, 3:30- 6 and 9:30 to close. Ending at 6 is really too early for most people who work all day. But, that super early start time means that a late lunch is totally do-able.

At $1.95, the buffalo fries are kind of a no brainer to order. They serve you a decent amount of fries with a few crumbles of blu cheese and tons of buffalo sauce. Put buffalo sauce on a stapler and I still might eat it, so  the fries were a success in my book.

Not pictured (photos were of even worse quality than the ones up now, sorry!) was their 1/2 pound cheeseburger, nothing special, but at $2.95 it is a nice filler. It also comes with a good amount of fries. Also not pictured are the buffalo wings ($3.95), which actually did taste very good but didn’t come with very many. There are better wing deals in town.

The most expensive appetizers top out at $4.95, this includes the fried calamari, which  tasted good enough, but certainly are not the best version I have had.

McCormick’s also has daily happy hour specials that are worth taking advantage of. Dollar hot dogs on Monday, $1 oysters on Tuesdays, $3 cheesesteaks on Wednesdays, dozen wings for $4 on Thursdays, and $5 for 1/2 of shrimp on Fridays. I was quite content with the fresh dollar oysters. It is a nice classy addition to any lunch.

Happy Hour is at the bar only. A thing to know before you go is that the staff might not be completely familiar with the happy hour specials. Check the online menu so you know what is actually available. You might actually need to inform the bartenders of what is supposed to be on special. I believe there is a $3.50 drink minimum. This is not a happy hour to go to for great deals on drinks, you are coming for cheap, better than average bar food.
