Pizza Thursday Week 2: Pine Street Smack Down

Paolo's

This week for Pizza Thursday we have a smack down on Pine Street, Paolo’s vs. Pine St Pizza. 2 local pizzerias a a few blocks away from each other, both with $2 slices and very different styles. Paolo’s (above) has more of a pleasing atmosphere than Pine St (below) but whose slice will prevail?

I thought Paolo’s was going to be the winner based on reputation, but I was not at all impressed with the flavorless floppy slice. I saw spices on top, but I didn’t taste any of them.

Though Paolo’s appeared more like a pizzeria pizza, I enjoyed eating Pine Street’s more. It was gooey with cheese and I could taste some garlic. They do the layer of sauce completely under the cheese  rather then getting the mix of the two, so that loses points.

Bottom line, if you are on Pine St, chose Pine Street Pizza over Paolo’s. Neither was served very hot and neither had an impressive crust. NYPD still ranks above both.

THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)

  • $2 is an ok price for a slice
  • Some of the gourmet pizzas had some interesting looking toppings

THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)

  • No taste!

THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)

  • Again, I am ok with $2 a slice
  • Lots of cheese and flavor

THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)

  • The crust is not right
  • The sauce and cheese should be better mixed

  • Okay, it’s seriously a Pizza Day. MT, DT, and you too, Jamie. Zach is the only one left and maybe LA will come through too?

Very nice to see all that CHEESE in the PSP slice.

i live nearby and have unfortunately been to both places. i’d say both have pitiful slices of pizza. the only decent pizza in center city is slice!
