Have You Bought Your 2011 Vendy Awards Ticket?: As you may have seen, tickets went on sale (and vendor nominations opened!) yesterday for the Vendy Awards taking place Sept. 24 on Governor's Island. A limited number of early bird tickets are available for $80 and proceeds go to the Street Vendor Project. I can't think of a better cause to stuff your face for.

FiDi Cleans Up With Vendy Rookie Finalists

Wow, I never expected to see so many carts and trucks I’ve eaten at nominated for Vendy Awards! The Rookie of the Year Finalists were announced yesterday, and both A-Pou’s Taste and its Taiwanese potstickers and the 99% Vegetarian Food carts were nominated. Hopefully they gave each other a hug or high-five when they found out, since their carts are a stone’s throw from each other on Liberty St. at  Broadway. One of the other nominees was the Cinnamon Snail, which I had a delicious vegan doughnut (really!) from at the Push Cart Market. With Mexicue and the Souvlaki Truck rounding out the list this category may be a tough one.

In case you’ve forgotten to nominate your favorite food vendor for the 2010 Vendy Awards, you have until Saturday to do so.You can find the nomination form here, and conveniently also buy your $85 ticket to the event. As an added bonus, if you nominate a vendor you’ll be entered to win a pair of tickets. The awards are Sept. 25 on Governor’s Island, and if the enticement of unlimited food and drink doesn’t lure you in, I don’t know what will. Zach has it on good authority that the event is more popular than usual this year, so help out the Street Vendor Project and your taste buds at the same time.
