Kortako’s Rice Bowl, Mandoo Fail To Wow In More Than One Way

It’s not often that eating lunch actually makes me angry because often that little break where I get to put food in my mouth is the highlight of my day, whether it’s sub par or awesome. After striking out on my lunch idea one day, I happened to walk by Kortako on Nassau (btw. John & Fulton) and realized I hadn’t returned since their much-delayed opening at the beginning of December. I had a burrito on my first visit which I enjoyed for what it was (Kor-Mex fusion), but another person didn’t seem too positive about the place in the comments of that post. So I stepped inside to try something different and it was all downhill from there.

First Look: Kortako’s Kor-Mex Fusion Comes In A Million Different Combinations

I was not expecting the new Kortako (Tagline: “It’s Tako! not Taco…”) on Nassau (btw. John & Fulton) to be so uncrowded on opening day, but it was probably a good thing since the place is essentially a long hallway. The space is extremely narrow and since you have to order from the end of the counter farthest from the entrance, you’re left smooshing yourself up against the wall behind people who are ordering/paying. That being said, I had studied the menu beforehand and decided what carby delivery vehicle I wanted my Korean/Mexican fusion food to come in, and you can see the burrito with two types of kimchi that I ended up with straight ahead.  Read more »

Kortako Starts Serving Us Korean Fusion Food Today

I know many of you have been waiting for the opening of  Bon Chon on John spawn, Kortako, on Nassau St. (btw. John & Fulton) which was pushed back due to Department of Health inspection delays. When I walked past on Friday there was an unexpected line out the door, and it turned out they were giving away free food during a soft opening (and you guys can apparently sniff out free food!). I grabbed a menu and confirmed that they were opening today at 11 a.m. but didn’t have time to stand in the growing line. I’ll give you a full report later this week, but you can take a look at the menu after the jump.

Kortako Opening Pushed Back

Those of you patiently waiting for the opening of Kortako, the Korean taco and sandwich place on Nassau (btw. John & Fulton) from the people behind Bon Chon on John, you’re just going to have to wait a little longer. According to a note on Kortako’s Web site, the opening has been delayed until mid-November due to delays in getting inspected. Those half-off coupons you got from Bon Chon will be extended to expire one month after whenever the opening date is. The inside looks ready to serve us some Korean fusion food, so stay tuned for a solid opening date.

Half-Off Deal For Kortako As Opening Nears

Good news for those of you anxiously awaiting the opening of Kortako, the Korean taco shop on Nassau (btw. John & Fulton) from the BonChon on John people. Lunch’er Kino passed along a tidbit that the place is expected to be open by the end of October (confirmed by their Web site) and if you eat at the FiDi BonChon they’ll give you a 50% off coupon for your first visit to Kortako. When I walked by significant progress had been made on the inside so fingers crossed that they can actually open on schedule. On a side note, with this, Nicky’s Vietnamese Sandwiches and the new location of Baoguette, Nassau St. is becoming quite the cheap Asian eats corridor.

Signage Goes Up On FiDi Korean Taco Shop Kortako

It seems like more progress is being made on the forthcoming Korean taco/sandwich venture Kortako on Nassau St. (btw. Fulton & John) by the people behind the John St. location of Bon Chon. Signs went up over the weekend, although a peek inside the non-papered up windows don’t show a whole lot of work going on inside. Maybe it’s such a small space that it won’t take long to get in shape for an opening? Whenever the place does open, I’ll be there to see if the offerings are on par with what they’re serving at the parent location.

Taste Testing Bon Chon’s Tacos, Sandwiches Ahead Of Offshoot Opening

A couple of weeks ago a sign popped up in a window on Nassau Street announcing the forthcoming (and terribly named) Kortako coming soon from the people behind Bon Chon on John St. I’d never eaten any of their non-Korean fried chicken items so headed over with a co-luncher for an investigative look into whether we had any right to be excited about them bringing us a taco and sandwich shop.
