Taim’s Soup Makes A Great Start To Lunching In The New Year

It’s a new year, it’s freezing outside and you may have made a resolution to eat healthier lunches. Taim has your back with its daily soup, which you can find at the shop in Nolita on Spring St. (at Mulberry). The truck sometimes offers soup as well, although they don’t park downtown a lot these days.

The good news is that this lunch is so much more than the usual cup of soup with a stale roll or piece of bread alongside.

There was one soup on offer at the shop and you can find out what it is at the counter or by calling. The day I went the soup was tomato basil and it came with a toasted white or wheat pita sprinkled liberally with the spice mix za’atar. The small bowl of soup will set you back $5 before tax, which I thought was a good deal, especially in this neighborhood.

The soup was thicker and heartier than I thought it would be with plenty of basil flavor. If you’ve eaten one of Taim’s sandwiches or platters you already know their pita is fantastic, and it gets even better with the toasting and spice treatment.

If you’re looking for something a little lighter than a falafel sandwich you can also save a couple of bucks with the soup special at Taim as long as you’re OK with whatever kind they have for the day.
