Midtown Lunch

For those of us stuck in the 30s at lunchtime, we’ve always wondered if the line from Xi’an Famous Foods would ever get long enough to stretch down to our neck of the woods.  Luckily we’ll never have to find out!  The spicy hand pulled noodle shop opened their second and MUCH needed Midtown location recently, and it’s a big one. Now let’s just make sure everything’s up to par with their 45th Street store!

Goodbye, generic Midtown deli. Hello, Xi’an Famous Foods! This crowd favorite has been expanding well beyond Chinatown and college hoods, educating everyone on regional Xi’an cuisine. And just on the eve of their Greenpoint opening, a reader tips us off that lower Midtown is getting their own location soon on 34th st btw. Madison and 5th! Thank god, since the first midtown location has been crazy since it opened almost two years ago. No opening date posted yet, just some work permits in the window. We’ll let you know when doors officially open!

What better way to warm up during winter than some spicy cumin lamb? Now I really want to be in the wework office, just two doors down, those lucky bastards.

If you were just as excited as I was, you’ve had the grand opening of the Midtown location of Xi’an Famous Foods (Monday, April 22, 2013) highlighted in your calendar in neon green, and your “free burger” coupon printed out since earlier this month. After we checked out the soft opening on Thursday, I decided to go back to personally celebrate the grand opening by redeeming my free burger and seeing the new digs for myself!

Noodle fans REJOICE! Our dream has finally come true!!

Word just broke this morning via The Daily Meal that Xi’an Famous Foods’ newest location will open on April 22nd at 24 West 45th Street (btw. 5th and 6th) with TWO kitchens. Yes, you read that right – one kitchen for dining in and one kitchen for take out just to accommodate all of you crazy Midtown Lunch’ers. Make sure you like their FB page to get a coupon for a free Stewed Pork or Spicy Cumin Lamb Burger at their grand opening from 11am-9pm!

The menu will be the Xi’an we’ve all come to know and love, but owner Jason Wang has indicated that the pizza oven left behind by Karam Restaurant II, the previous tenants, may be coming in handy for some new experiments.
