Sensebowl Shutters, Disgruntled Employee Takes to Yelp

Sensebowl Shutter

Last week, Glaze Teriyaki owner, Paul Krug, wrote in lamenting that ML newcomer, Sensebowl, has been closed the past 3 out of 4 weeks that he’s tried to lunch there. I stopped by on Friday during lunch time to find out what the deal is, and found that Sensebowl was indeed closed. There was a sign on the front door that simply stated, “Closed for the week”, and there didn’t appear to be any renovation going on when I peeked inside.

To make things more spicy, there seems to be a disgruntled ex-worker who’s taken to Yelp, accusing the owner of withholding wages. It certainly seems like stormy waters for Sensebowl, and for the time being, it looks like everyone will have to get their “Momofuku meets Chipotle” fix somewhere else.

Free Drink + App at Sensebowl Through Dec 31st: This just in from Lunch'er "Yee-Lynn" (and confirmed via Twitter): Between now and December 31st you get a free drink and appetizer with the purchase of any bowl at the newly open Sensebowl (on 52nd btw. Lex+3rd).  We highly recommend the steamed buns...

Sensebowl

I’ll admit to being very intrigued by Sensebowl, our latest Asian offering (on 52nd btw Lex+3rd). “Build your own bowl” can be hit or miss.  For example: build your own salad?  No thanks.  Pay what it weighs?  Even worse.  But these bowls are sold at a set price (good), and they’re billing themselves as “Chipotle meets Momofuku”.  But Momofuku is kind of great, and I could help but wonder if Sensebowl was setting my expectations too high.

Sensebowl Is Now (Soft) Open; Grand Opening on Monday

What is it about holidays and soft openings!?  Yesterday Grub Street posted about a brand new fast food concept opening on 52nd btw. Lex+3rd called Sensebowl. It’s being billed as a “Chipotle Meets Momofuku” and when I stopped by today they were already open!  Technically their grand opening is Monday, but there was already good size line and plenty of customers enjoying their soft opening.  I would have stayed if I didn’t have other lunch plans but I did have time to snap some menu photos.

Check them out after the jump, and early adopters let us know what you think in the comments.
