Half off Schnitzel Express: It's been a year and a half since Schnitzel Express took over the City Burger space on 39th btw. B'way+6th Ave. and we're kind of ashamed to admit we've never tried.  Maybe this will be a good catalyst... In Bundles is offering $14 worth of food from Schnitzel Express for just $7.

Schnitzified Eggplant is Better Than I Expected

Veal, pork, chicken, cod. These are the proteins that people think about when they think of the thinly pounded, breaded and fried lunches at Schintzel & Things. And if you’re a true fan, you also know about the infamous Schnitz Burger. But on my latest visit to the truck (which is still doing major business even with the recent opening of the storefront), I was intrigued and seduced by the idea of an eggplant schnitzel.

It’s been mentioned on Midtown Lunch in the past and I’ve seen it on the truck as a regularly featured special, so I figured I should forego my usual veal and give the eggplant schnitzel a try. And while I know Oleg Voss and his crew do a fantastic job with all the vegetable side dishes, like roasted beets with feta and cucumber salad, I was a bit less confident when it comes to frying up a piece of eggplant. I had visions of greasy and mushy aubergine segments.

Schnitz & Things to Carry Robicelli’s; Lev-Less Cupcake Stop Returns Tomorrow

Schnitzel & ThingsIn my humble opinion, one of the best parts of Schnitzel & Things’ new storefront, aside from the obvious copious amounts of schnitzel, was that you could also get Treats Truck treats for dessert. Well, tomorrow they’re bringing in a new dessert, Midtown’s Best, Robicelli’s cupcakes! Schnitzel & Things will be getting all the flavors, a definite plus for Midtown East. But that’s not all the cupcake news going around, there’s finally a pulse again with Cupcake Stop.

Lenten Fish Fridays: Schnitzel & Things Cod Schnitzel

Cod Schnitzel from Schnitzel and Things

While veal, pork and the Schnitz Burger might get all the play here at Midtown Lunch, this is another schnitz. A Lenten Friday friendly schnitz. A cod schnitz.  The cod schnitzel was one of the very first things I ordered from Schnitzel & Things when they first hit the streets in July of 2009. Available at the truck and S & T’s brick and morter as both a sandwich ($8 on the truck/$8.50 at the store) and a platter with two sides ($10 on the truck/$9.95 at the store). The cod is tender and not overly fishy and the breading gives it a wonderful crunch. While the sandwich will run you more than a filet o’ fish or a fried fish sandwich from Kim’s Aunt, it’s a high quality fish and price-wise it is on par with the Oyster Bar’s fish sandwich options. If you don’t mind paying a little more for your fried fish lunch, this is a good one to try.

The truck is on 52nd and Lex today, or you can head over to their new storefront.

Our First Look at Schnitzel & Things’ Expanded Storefront Menu

Schnitzel & Things

Yesterday, Schnitzel & Things finally became a bonafide brick-and-mortar (3rd btw 45th+46th), and the line was out the door. The new space allows for a larger menu, a much faster line, and cookies! Though I wasn’t there as early as the third customer, Donny, I did make it over before the lunch rush to get my schnitz on.

Schnitzel & Things Will Probably Not Open Today: On Friday we gave you a sneak peek inside the new Schnitzel & Things storefront (on 3rd Ave. btw. 45+46th), which was maybe possibly going to have its soft opening over the weekend.  Well, they didn't end up opening over the weekend and it looks like they might delay their grand opening until tomorrow. We'll let you know as soon as we find out anything (or you can follow them on Twitter.)

A Sneak Peek Inside Schnitzel & Things’ Storefront

Schnitzel & Things

We here in Midtown have been big fans of the Schnitzel & Things Truck ever since its first appearance on our streets way back in August ’09, so naturally we’ve been super excited for their brick-and-mortar store to open in the spot that used to house the original Kushi-Q (on 3rd btw 45th+46th). If God loves schnitzel, the shop will be open in time for our Monday lunches. And since Schnitzel & Things loves Midtown Lunch, I got a little sneak peek behind the brown paper yesterday!

Schitzel & Things Storefront Opening Monday?

Back in January we told you that Schnitzel & Things would be opening a brick and mortar store on 3rd Ave. btw. 45+46th. Well, according to this they are hoping to officially open on Monday! (With a soft open as early as this weekend!?) We hear that the construction is not completely done yet, so nothing is guaranteed, but even if Monday isn’t the day… clearly we are only days away from stationary schnitz! Oh, and we’ve been saying it forever… but as Fork in the Road notes, food truck wannabes should take note of Gene’s comments.  Running a food truck is not as “liberating” as you might think. (Emotionally and financially.)  [via Eater]

Your First Look at Schnitzel & Things’ New Shop

We’re still at least a month away (and most likely two) from the new Schnitzel & Things storefront on 3rd Ave. btw. 45+46th, but at least the truck is still on the street! (We’re looking at you NYC Cravings.)  And if you were  thinking the new brick and mortar store was just going to be some bush league 3rd Avenue storefront opened by a bunch of amateurs, guess again.  The S&T crew sent over a rendering of what the space is going to look like, and it’s designed by the same guy who designed Donatella’s pizza place in Chelsea.  (Fancy!)

It’s not a final design, and the colors may change but you can check out what they have planned for the space after the jump.
