ML Happy Hour: Is McCormick’s & Schmick Still The Best Food Happy Hour?

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so I thought maybe it was time to introduce a happy hour column to the site. Every Friday afternoon our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

A few months after I wrote that McCormick’s was one of the best food happy hours, our long time commenter Adam posted that:

“I went here tonight with a friend. The burger was fantastic for $3.95 (NOTE: Yes, it seems that they raised the price a buck, but it was still damn good). Best $4 burger I’ve ever had, and for $4 I will be back again. The burger was a perfect medium-rare, big, and juicy, and did I mention $4? This could easily become a bad habit. “

There is nothing wrong with a $4 burger, even Blarney Stone can’t beat that. I figured enough time had passed by that I should follow up on McCormick’s burger at the bar special and see what other changes had been made.

Trying Out McCormick & Schmick’s $10 Lunch Special

_MG_9959 - Version 2

I wasn’t immediately excited when I read about the $10 lunch special at the bar of McCormick & Schmick’s. I like cheap lunch specials at a fancy restaurant just as much as the next guy (i’m looking at you burger from Wolfgang’s, but schlepping up to Rockefeller Center didn’t really seem worth it in this heat. Then I saw that a half po’ boy and lobster bisque was among the options – I reconsidered. I love a po’ boy and haven’t had a one since our ML Team excursion to the Grand Central Oyster Bar. Clearly I was past due.

See what ten bucks gets you after the jump.

McCormick & Schmick’s Add $10 Bar Lunch Specials

From Lunch’er “Michael”

In addition to the best food happy hour in midtown, Mccormick & Schmick’s (on 52nd and 6th Ave.) now has $10 lunches at the bar. The selections look pretty good… three of them have seafood, which I do not care for, the fourth is a sandwich with brie, which I also do not care for, and the fifth is a cobb salad- and I don’t need to spend $10 for that. BUT, a half a shrimp po boy and lobster bisque for $10? For the right person, that’s pretty sweet. Linguine with clam sauce? Dunno how many clams might be in there, but it sounds like it has potential. So, I guess since it’s at the bar only, with a drink and a tip it’s gonna be over $10, but it’s right in range, and there aren’t many places you’re going to find a sit down lunch in a pleasant, air-conditioned restaraunt, and get a half shrimp sandwhich with some lobster bisque for ten bucks, $15 with a pint of beer or a glass of wine.

$10 for half a po’boy and lobster bisque sounds like a pretty awesome deal to us.  Looking for something a bit meatier?  Michael has one more rec…
