Classic 49th Street Pizzeria Bella Napoli Has Closed

Here’s some sad news reported by multiple lunchers last week… it looks like Bella Napoli, the pizzeria on West 49th street, has closed. For years it was a standby lunch spot for a lot of offices in the area, so ML’ers, if you have nearby pizza recommendations, leave them in the comments.

Bella Napoli Does A Great Grandma Slice


I can’t quite figure out why more people aren’t buzzing about Bella Napoli and their pizza. It was Brownie’s pick (she’s into their vodka slice) for the 2011 readers’ poll, even though the ML community favored Previti and Pizza by Cer Te. But Bella Napoli’s pizza has been consistently good for years now, and even though it’s on West 49th — a street with a lot of really good lunch options — it’s definitely worth ducking into. More specifically, look past all the pies covered with fancy toppings and go straight to the simple grandma slice.

Bella Napoli Serves a Pretty Decent Vodka Slice

The other day I noticed a call out for vodka slice recommendations in the forums from lunch’er MattPeach. Lunch’er deanlo let him know that Jiannetto’s sometimes has vodka slices on their truck. With vodka slices on my mind I happened to be walking by Bella Napoli (on 49th btw. 6+7th) when I spied a familiar rose colored sauce topped pie on the counter right near the door. Bella Napoli does vodka slices? Now this was something I had to check out.
