This Just In: According to Lunch'er "JoJo" the stand that sells tamales in front of the Mexican Embassy (on 39th btw. Park+Lex) was closed today. "I went right when a woman was writing him some sort of citation and he told me that he was sorry but he wasn't allowed to sell anything today, even though he was already set up."

Havana Central Offers $10 Lunch Special: Wined and Dined posts details of a new $10 lunch special at Havana Central (on 46th btw. 6+7th). It's a good deal for a sit down lunch, but it will be tough to drag me away from Margon (which is right across the street.)

Free Cookie Alert: The Treats Truck (with the help of Tivo) will be getting into the X-Mas spirit Thursday (on 38th & 5th) by giving away 1000 free cookies starting around Noon.  We also hear there may be a guy dressed in some sort of a Tivo outfit (which I suppose could make good fodder for next year's Halloween contest.)

Holiday Sweets: Serious Eats has another beautiful (and delicious looking) post about the holiday sweets at Bouchon Bakery... but don't forget about the little guys as well!  Both the Treats Truck and the Street Sweets Truck are taking holiday dessert orders now.

Five Guys is Not Taking Over Indus Express: With Indus Express' landlords looking to find a higher paying tenant there was concern in the comments this morning that Five Guys might be the ones to displace them (on 48th btw. 5+6th.)  Have no fear, though.  Five Guys is taking over the old Sam's House/Bagelfeller space, below Wu Liang Ye.

Two More Five Guys Coming Soon: Hot off opening their new location on 3rd Ave. btw. 43+44th comes this news... Five Guys has plans to open two more Midtown locations in the first half of next year, and one of them will be on 48th btw. 5+6th.

Wafel Truck Launches Croque Monsieur Today: This just in from the Wafels & Dinges Truck (parked on 47th and 3rd): "Launching the Croque Monsieur today ($6). Cheese is a blend of 4 cheeses grated, mixed w cream, spices & fresh herbs. Ham is a good Canadian cooked ham. We put 1 thick slice in the middle, with cheese on both sides. Comes we a little arugula on the side." Sadly it's not on a waffle (because that would have been awesome!)

Free Soup Alert: The Street Sweets truck will be on 50th btw. 6+7th today giving out free 8oz servings of their new soups.  The fun starts at Noon, and will continue until supplies last.

I Would Kill For That Street Meat: Remember the guy who was stabbed to death at the Famous Halal Guys cart on 53rd and 6th Ave. back in October of 2006.  Well, the trial just started and the guy accused of the crime has pleaded "self defense". [via Eater]
