Diamond Dairy Closing Makes The Post: I was kind of sad that more media outlets didn't pick up on the incredibly sad closing of the 60 year old Diamond Dairy a few weeks back. Well, finally the news made the NY Post yesterday.  It's not a huge eulogy, but at least it's there. [via Gothamist]

Is LPQ Growing Too Fast?: Le Pain Quotidien opened 2 new Midtown locations in 2009, and with new branches coming soon to the Time/Life Building and Central Park the New York Observer asks if they are growing too fast. High quality lunch spot, or the next Au Bon Pain?  What do you think... [via Grub Street]

Last Chance for the Treats Truck in 2009: The Treats Truck is gearing up for the short holiday week by making a rare Monday appearance on 38th and 5th today from 1 to 3:30pm. Tuesday and Wednesday will be a normal schedule, but starting on Thursday the truck goes on vacation until 2010.

GCT Financier Patisserie Opens Today: According to Blondie and Brownie the new Grand Central Terminal Financier Patisserie is scheduled to open today in the old Oren's space. This is the third Financier to open in Midtown this year.

Go Go Curry Says Goodbye to Matsui: Ultraclay happily reports that Hideki Matsui's move to the California Angels hasn't effected Go Go Curry (on 38th btw. 7+8th) yet.  But they will say "thank you and good luck" to Matsui on Monday by giving away a free topping coupon with every order of curry in his honor.

Latke Showdown: If you're still craving potato pancakes, Fork in the Road did a Midtown East battle royale which featured Sarge's putting the smackdown on the 2nd Ave. Deli. And if you want those to be Chanukah latkes, I think today is your last shot.

Halal Killer Gets Acquitted: Yesterday a jury acquitted the guy who killed another guy over cutting the line at the Famous 53rd & 6th Halal Guys cart. Either they believed his "self defense" story, or they just understand how good the chicken and lamb over rice is. Lesson: don't cut the line at your favorite halal cart.

Live Midtown Lunch Town Hall at 11:30 Today: I really want to play around with this new broadcasting site called Vokle... so at 11:30 am today (that's, like right now) I'll be doing a live video chat.   Need a lunch recommendation?  Want to ask a random question?  Or just come and lurk.  Think of it as a Midtown Lunch town hall (beta version!)  Come join now>> Let's try this one instead>> Oh well.  So much for that.  We'll try again another time.

How Much Pizza Do You Eat For “Lunch”?: Slice is running a poll asking readers how many slices is a lunch? I don't know what's crazier: that somebody would consider one piece of pizza a lunch, or that 3 wasn't offered as a legitimate answer.

Free Lemongrass Short Ribs Alert: As a Christmas gift to lunchers, OBAO (on 53rd btw. 2+3rd) will be giving away "free lemongrass short rib skewers with purchase of any lunch entrée for the remainder of 2009 (eat-in only)." The deal starts today.
