PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Sara”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Sara, a student who discovered the joys of Midtown East while interning on the Rachael Ray show.

Name: Sara

Age: 22

Occupation: Student at FDU

Where in Midtown do you Work?: Former intern on the Rachael Ray Show

Favorite Kind of Food: Any Spanish food and/or comfort food

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Can’t think of one (serious.)

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Potbelly Sandwich Shop for the Roast beef sandwich with lettuce, tomato & italian seasoning. 696 Deli (on 3rd btw. 43+44th) for their Bacon Egg & Cheese. Sophie’s Cuban for the Ropa Vieja with rice & beans & their empanadas are legit too! Blarney Stone (on 3rd btw. 45+46th) for their Rotisserie Chicken with 2 sides or Hamburger Lunch Special. Mangu Dominican Restaurant’s Sancocho Soup. And McFaddens on 2nd btw. 42+43rd for their Shepherds Pie

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? 696 Deli

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? I went to Blarney Stone once before I saw it on Midtown Lunch. I saw the review and got the chicken so I was happy I went again! I love it!

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Any city, well preferably New York, Philly or even Boston. I fell in love with Midtown East while I interned and even started my own blog: Small Chick Big Deals that has reviews of those places and more! I love all of the variety in the city!

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? Which food trucks are the best and where are they located in NYC!

Go an answer for Sara? Put it in the comments. And, as always, if you want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate)? Email editor@midtownlunch.com.

  • Wow, just when you thought nothing could be more boring and useless than the Rachael Ray Show, you get this profile…

  • The idea of asking where food TRUCKS are is ludicrous.

Also, a casual game turned into a shirt does not make one ‘nerdy’.

    That is all.

I was originally going to blast you guys for being unkind to someone willing to be profiled on the site, but after actually reading it, this is blatant self-promotion. She’s cute, though.

  • damn, brutal crowd. When did we become Gawker commenters. ha ha

    • When she put her blog url in the answers?

      • Yes, I’m totally harsh. Get off the internet if you can’t handle criticism, especially when pictures of yourself are involved.

That said, I’m sure she’s a lovely person.

Read her blog for a thoughtful insightful review of Dallas BBQ that will redefine how you feel about not only this “restaurant”, but your own ridiculous penchant for avoiding joints where the drink menu notes the volume of each one in gallons. In her own words, the ribs were “good”. Sadly, the service “started off well but then got bad”, risking their spot in the michelin guide 2013. Food good, service bad. Four words suffice. What more do you need?

Too elitist? I can’t even tell anymore.

      • We’ve come full circle if I’m the elitist and
“Food Good; Service Bad” is the correct epitome of what a review should be.

  • I don’t enjoy the food in Blarney Stone and McFadden’s, but to be fair, I haven not had either the rotisserie chicken nor the the shepherd’s pie respectively. mangu’s is a little overpriced for the sizes of their servings.

should get my butt over to midtown east more often to sample the flavors there i think. as for the food trucks/ vendors, check the twitter feeds as they’re updated quite regularly. also, i try to attend the Vendys annually to give me a good feel for what’s out there. “best” is relative but i do enjoy trini-paki and eggztravaganza.

  • I was going to write something, snyde, but I just don’t have the energy today….She’s already done enough damage to herself without me piling on.

Rodalpho, I like the cut of your jib.

I appreciate the criticism, I’m just starting off! Dallas was only by 2nd review but I promise more are to come and I have a lot of places on board. And by where the food trucks are I meant the good ones, not that it seems there are any awful ones.

    • Oh, there are awful ones. Or at least useless ones.

There’s this site that has been to most of the trucks that exist in The City (h/t ExViTermini) for lunch, and reviewed them extensively, but I can’t remember its URL.

Yes, I saw your twitter feed asking dozens of restaurants if they minded you stopping by for a review.

I just had a thought. Wouldn’t it be easier for everybody involved if they emailed over pictures of their food and dining room and just deposited the estimated cost of the meal directly to your paypal account? That way you wouldn’t have to deal with the tunnel traffic and they’d free up a table for customers.

Its easy to get in touch via social media. As I’ve mentioned I just started so I’m trying new things. And I do plan on changing pictures so they are more relative to the blog. I’m a college student with a dream and passion for food.

    • SCBD, well at least you got about a dozen people to check out your website, for the small price of some internet scorn!

    • smallchickbadblog

  • I like Dallas BBQ b/c people are willing to fist fight there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR8Oc65mvgI

  • Vdub- I like Mcdonalds better, b/c at Mcdonalds, a dude can club 2 females, tough ugly manly hairy brutish females, but females nonetheless, and the females go to jail while the Dude walks free!

As a New Yorker, am I supposed to know what FDU stands for?

  • ha, this is like Gay Superman all over again.

  • OK OK. Let’s relax a little. She’s really young and a little over her head. I always felt the profilee should be an experienced Midtown Luncher offering their experiences etc. Over the past year, there have been lots of newcomers, and Sara takes the cake. She interned for a summer, that’s basically it. So rather than ripping her, rip on ML for profiling a rookie. She’s not putting on a pretense.

  • Sara, please do tell…How awful is RR in person???

    • I can field this: A friend used to work on 30 Dollars a day (look for me on the “Boston” episode masquerading as a Harvard student! ha!) and I drank with all of them: RR is loud, overly dramatic, talks a lot about sex. I do remember her being funny though in that her vulgarity was kind of incongruous.

      • Interesting — except for replacing “funny” with “obnoxious”, that’s exactly the opinion a friend of mine had when he and his girlfriend were asked to sit at her table (just off-camera) in the New Orleans episode of $40 A Day.

      • I would say that brand of “funny” definitely becomes “obnoxious” when said person is not footing the bill for your drinks. What can I say? I was young (though still older than this young lady!)and easily bought.

      • She talks about sex constantly, and is ‘annoying’?

A ballgag sounds like a great investment.

I’m not that young lol graduate in May and she was cool, I loved it!

I used to visit this site constantly while I interned. I guess I’m a “jersey girl” but I love the city.

  • Well, if you’re a college grad (almost!) and want to put up a blog that you hope grown-ups will read, at *least* know the difference between ‘there,’ ‘their’ and ‘they’re’! Or don’t they teach that anymore at Farleigh Ridiculous University?

  • User has not uploaded an avatar

    C’mon Stevenp, a grammar flame? You’re better than that. It’s not it’s a target-poor environment.

    • Hey, that was a set-up for the FDU zing. And Cheeeeese, it *is* spelled “Farleigh” even though it is pronounced the same way. (Next week we’ll work on how to pronounce “Raymond Luxury Yacht”)

I’ve been told that their are some mistakes, as I said before I plan on making sure everything is up & edited better. And they do, my audience is mainly 18-24 but I want it to reach anyone.

    • 18-24 year old folks “tlk lik dis”.

Many editors died to bring us this information.

      >> I’ve been told that their are some mistakes

Does anyone else get the feeling that we are the victims of an beautifully deep, subtle, and devious troll? Surely this cannot be unintentional.
