Bian Dang’s Crepe Monster Opening Today with Free Crepes

_MG_1226 - Version 2

Here’s two things we just found about Crepe Monster, the new shop on the top floor of Food Gallery 32: 1) It’s owned and operated the people behind Bian Dang (aka NYC Cravings) is one of the owners of the place and 2) they are soft opening today at 1pm and serving free crepes all day long (or until you mooching hordes eat them out of house and home). It’s just a soft opening, and they’re hoping to get some feedback from ML freeloaders fans.  During the soft opening they’ll just be serving up sweet crepes, but eventually they do plan on serving Asian inspired savory ones (bulgogi crepe anybody?) Freeloaders… engage!

I went after work today. Line was 20+ deep, and waited 1 hour for a crepe. There is only one crepe maker, so that’s why it was so slow. They offered a choice of savory or sweet crepe; although almost everyone chose the sweet. I had the savory crepe which consisted of ham, cheese, egg, and scallions. The crepe was thin and had a slight sweetness to it, the edges were a bit crispy. I thought it was good, and would consider buying it again in the future. The person in front of me ordered the sweet crepe, which consists of 3 small scoops of ice cream from the Chinatown Ice Cream factory and a choice of 2 toppings (choose from Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs, walnut, almonds, coconut, blueberries, etc.), whipped cream, nutella. 2 of the 2 owners were present and chatted up the customers. They are still testing out different types of crepes and have not finalized the menu. When asked how much they would charge for a crepe, they said that is still under consideration.
