Rudy’s Adds A Drink Special (New Backyard Coming Soon?)
If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so I thought maybe it was time to introduce a happy hour column to the site. Every week, our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.
Rudy’s bar has been keeping busy this summer. They’ve given the booths a fresh layer of duct tape, started serving chicken and chili, and began renovations to their backyard. Some might recall last year that the Department of Buildings threatened to shut them down due to fire and safety issues regarding their space. However, The Pig abides and construction is in full gear out back.
Check out the progress and their new drink deal after the jump!
Rudy’s new special is a beer with a shot of Bushmills for $5. We’re not talking Fleishman’s rotgut here. If anyone knows a better deal in midtown I’d love to know about it.
Couple that with their free Hebrew National hot dogs and you have the makings for a great summer happy hour. Let’s hope the patio is finished before it’s too late to enjoy it.
The dirty, sweaty job of renovating the outdoor space began approximately 2 month ago and from the looks of things they’re digging more tunnels then Charles Bronson in the Great Escape.
The new backyard will be a boozer’s bunker of large proportions. Concrete sacks and cinder blocks are abundant. Should I happen to be in midtown when the zombie apocalypse comes this is where I’ll hunker down. I’ll let you know when the backyard finally opens, until then a shot and a beer will certainly help pass the time.
(Update: Chili will be offered again when the weather gets chilly -pun intended)

Does the beer/shot combo involve crappy domestics or something decent?
