Lily O’Brien’s is Now Selling Empanadas
Thanks to Lunch’er Dan for passing this (strange) one along: “Lily O’brien’s [the Irish chocolate shop on 40th btw. 5+6th] has just started serving empanadas and they are delicious. My midtown coworker, Andrew Flynn, a bonafied food snob, refuses to believe that Lily O’Brien’s could possibly be serving empandas (much less good empanadas), and I’d love to be able to prove him wrong on the scale of hitting him with a Midtown Lunch post.” Uh… consider your friend proven wrong…?…we guess?

I was reading about homemade pop tarts earlier today and was thinking about empanadas. Bakeries do sell them.

Maybe it’s a cultural cop out on Lily O’Brien’s part. Empanadas are more marketable than pasties (which people will probably pronounce as ‘pays-tees’ and that usually refers to… ::giggle::)

Did you find out who makes them? Would be curious. If they’re Ruben’s, I’d buy them. Macaron in the garment district makes their macarons.

The chicken ones are tasty. They are the style with chewy rather than flaky dough (like the old Fashion Soup empanadas, which I miss!) They’re a bit smaller than they look in the picture. They also had burekas, which were the same price but nearly twice the size, but I didn’t try them.
