2009 Readers’ Poll: Best Falafel

It’s time for the 3rd Annual Midtown Lunch Readers’ Poll. Your nominations are in, and between now and the end of the year I’ll be asking all of you to vote for the best Midtown Lunches in a whole range of categories. You can only vote once per category (so choose wisely), and official results will be posted after the new year.

Midtown saw a big-time giant in the falafel business enter the playing field this year (Maoz), and with last year’s winner (Olympic Pita) having an identity crisis this prize could go to anybody. Will it be from a cart? Do Crisp’s crazy “handbags” have a chance? You guys decide. Here are the nominees for best falafel:

I consider myself a bit of a falafel connoisseur. My favorite falafel is far and away Maoz! So happy it moved to Times Square. The place is clean and the service is quick. They have an excellent salad bar with amazing fixings to stuff in your pita. Best of all, the falafel tastes great and it is dirt cheap.

  • I *know* this is so HARD!!!! I mean I really like Maoz, but I’m hesitant to vote for a chain…

  • Falafel is more of a snack than a lunch, so I tend to grab one from Chickpea or Mamoun’s when I’m schlepping around the Village. I’ve only eaten them from Crisp & Maoz in midtown – two chains! I really need to widen my falafel horizons before I answer this one fairly.

  • pick a pita!!!!!!!!

Am I really the only person who prefers a real arabic falafel? B&O by a wide margin!

  • I really like Rainbow Falafel on 17th St just west of Union Square
