PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Teresa”

Every Tuesday I turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Teresa, the girl responsible for the amazing Wah Mei Pork Chop Fast Food delivery story last week. I wanted to see what other tricks she might up her sleeve!

Name: Teresa

Age: 26

Occupation: QA Analyst (just started 6 months ago and still don’t really know what I do exactly).
Where in Midtown do you Work?: TheMarkets.com around 53rd and 7th

Favorite Kind of Food: So far, my favorite is street food in Taipei. The food is so tasty and cheap. Whenever I visit Taipei, I make sure to have noodles almost everyday. Also, they have their famous soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung. The dumpling skin is much thinner than what I get here in Chinatown/Flushing. This summer I’ll be visiting Japan, so I hope to find some new favorites.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Mushrooms, sea cucumber, abalone, clams, oysters, mussels, most of the “exotic” seafood in a typical Chinese banquet.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Tonkotsu or Curry Ramen at Men Kui Tei on 56th btw. 5+6th (I found out sadly they don’t serve Mabo Ramen for lunch), Fried Chicken Curry Udon at Teriyaki Boy (on 7th Ave. btw. 48+49th), Beef Soft Tofu Soup at Cafe Duke’s (on 51st btw. 6+7th), and the unlimited salad at Stage Star (on 55th & 6th).

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Cafe Duke’s, Bocca, China Gourmet (although I never eat there), Street meat at 53rd and 6th and the Crown Deli.

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? NYC Cravings Truck, even though I wish I never had their unsatisfactory pork chop over rice. The $5 May Lunch Special at Shilla, which was very good. Szechuan Gourmet, but I have yet to try it

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Tokyo so I can eat ramen everyday, Rome so I can have pizza, gelato and pasta everyday, or Taipei so I can have beef noodle soup everyday.

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? My old job was close to Cafe Zaiya and Yagura (both on 41st btw. Mad+5th), so I miss the takeout Japanese food. Is there anything like this near 53rd and 7th? Cafe Duke’s does NOT count. If there are none, what’s the closest place to my office? I’m willing to travel.

Hmmm.  Pro Hot Korean is kind of like the Korean version of Cafe Zaiya, and that’s on 56th btw. 5+6th.  Not *as* good, (and the selection isn’t as large as Zaiya) but it’s good enough.  And close to your office.

Anybody else have a recommendation?  Put it in the comments. And as always if you’d like to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email me at zach@midtownlunch.com.

  • Goodness.

    That’s me done then.

    No more From me.

    Adios, ta’ta ,tooodle’s, pippip.

Be safe in your brave ‘free’ new world :)

  • I’ve always thought the pizza in italy (particularly naples) is the best in the world.

  • RE: “opinions about everything, knowledge about nothing”

LOL — That’s the most intelligent thing that the fuffalo has ever written, and I love it!

But I have a question or three:

    1. What the hell is a “QA Analyst”, especially if the “QA Analyst” doesn’t even know what her job is?

    2. Is Teresa CERTAIN that she is analyzing “QA” or will she be analyzing something more exotic?

    3. How do I apply for a job as a “QA Analyst”?

And finally, is “FRED” now working as a “QA Analyst” in Atlanata?

  • So no one likes the FoW theme song and accompanying video?

  • Rudy gone… this is the end of midtown lunch as we know it. Zach my friend watch out for the sharks that’s a pretty big jump.

P.S. Ladyboy may be mean but i think it’s funny.

  • Lament not.

Rudy is like a Phoenix. He shall arise from the ashes, stronger, and better, and more ‘fuffalo bucking’ than ever.

I only wish that I could say the same about Wilma (sorry, I meant “Fred”).

  • @NoPickles – I didn’t mean to come off as condescending. Sorry if you took it that way. I figured it was a helpful comment :)

  • now I am dying to know what he said!!! Special prize to the first person who emails me the gossip fressagirl@gmail.com

  • Maybe we should start a thread in the forum called Today’s ML Profile or Freak of the Week?

  • @ fressagirl – it wasn’t that bad or offensive. just not that funny (or true).

What I said a few weeks ago still stands. Unless your photo is up on this website as part of a profile, you have no right to make negative comments about what a Profiled Luncher looks like. (It’s no coincidence that the same people who make these comments every week, refuse to be profiled themselves.)

    Fair is fair.

  • Teresa —

You seem to have a good knowledge of Asian delicacies on the West Side. Do you have any recommendations for non-veggie Asian goodies on the East Side?

  • Well, Mr. “adamprato”, although I admire the profuse hair on your face (usually the sign of one’s need to express one’s uncertain masculinity, according to Doctors of Psychology), I was simply wondering how you were chosen to advise other posters on which people to avoid:

“No Pickles, you could just avoid reading comments by Rudy/Fred/UpChuck (oops, DocChuck). Then you won’t have to worry about being offended”.

Are you now the OFFICIAL moderator on this website, or should I simply assume that you are full of shit?

Oh, and by the way, as soon as I need my computer ‘fixed’ I will be sure to give YOU a call — LOL!

  • “RE: “opinions about everything, knowledge about nothing”

LOL — That’s the most intelligent thing that the fuffalo has ever written, and I love it!”

Well Mr. “DocChuck09”, my “profuse” facial hair is because I get ingrown hairs when I shave to the skin, and I got tired of the the pain, so I leave a little growth. But yah, I see why you’re keen about the “knowledge of nothing” comment :) But if you wan’t to go there, I have to say you’re doing a stellar job of hiding your bald-spot with that handsome fedora. I’m sure it’s much easier to avoid the glare off that dome of chrome than to go through hours of correction using photoshop.

I was chosen to advise on which comments to avoid the same way you were chosen to advise us on which street carts to avoid or how to make a proper sandwich.

As for your computer, there isn’t a disinfectant strong enough that would sway me to consider touching your sexual partner.

  • I knew McBagel was living on borrowed time and today he went just one insult over the line. ML hazing is one thing. Borderline slander is another.

    McBagel gone! A great day!

  • A sad day for all midtown lunchers…a black day.

  • second attempt at a FotW theme song
(sung to the tune of Tubthumping by Chumbawamba)

    I get profiled
    I’m Freak of the Week
    and I’m lunchin’ in Midtown

    (repeat, repeat, repeat)

    He eats some dutchy meat
    He eats some halal meat
    He eats pastrami meat
    He eats some kogi meat
He sing the songs that remind him of the red sauce
He sings the songs that remind him of the white sauce

    Don’t cry for me, I got a Walgreen’s sandwich

  • WILL SOMEONE PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO FRED :)

You get an A- for effort for that one. I think you meant “hot sauce” though.

  • Wait a minute, who am *I* to be grading people’s posts? Who appointed me official tabulator of post value?! Next time your comments need a grading, be sure to give ME a call! “LOL”
