FreeFoods NYC Opens Second Location Today

The second location of Matt Kenney’s FreeFoods NYC opened this morning on 52nd btw. Lex+3rd in the old F&B Gudtfood space. The original location (on 45th btw. 5+6th) was always a little too rich for my taste, but vegetarians, vegans, and fans of organic food who work in Midtown East (and don’t mind spending the extra money) should be excited for this new option. Maybe if the economy rebounds, or I win the lottery, I’ll try their by the pound buffet (it looks pretty damn amazing.) They will open at 10am every day this week, with breakfast and regular hours (7:30 am opening time) beginning next Monday.

  • so bummed about f&b.

  • *yawn* (At the ‘news,’not the reporting!) I *might eat at FreeFoods if it were actually free. But who needs another overpriced trendy/ripoff ‘organic’ eatery in Midtown? Not I.

  • i stoped in for lunch today. great vibe, great food. excited to have them in the neighborhood!

  • I went there yesterday. I was so busy that I didn’t have time to post. The food was FANTASTIC!! Everything was fresh and delicious. They really know how to use flavors. I picked from the by-the-pound section. I had duck breast with some tasty sides, shrimp wrapped in bacon, some brown rice type thing with mushrooms, and filet mignon over some humus type sauce on toast. I cannot begin to tell you how delicious all of these were besides the shrimp. The shrimp was average. The Filet and the rice were absolutely spectacular!

They also had some dessert freebies. They have a no pumpkin pumpkin pie that is probably the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had.

The price… “$7 per half pound.” That’s what the guy said to me. I don’t care what the price is. This place is worth it. Just get a half pound of the filet and it’s pretty much a steak lunch.
