2008 Readers’ Poll: Best Midtown Sweets

It’s time for the 2nd Annual Midtown Lunch Readers’ Poll. Between now and the end of the year I’ll be asking all of you to decide on the best Midtown Lunches in a whole range of categories. You can only vote once per category (so choose wisely), and official results will be posted after the new year.

2008 was a pretty sweet year in Midtown, with the already established Dessert Truck and Wafels and Dinges Truck joining the Treats Truck with regular stops in our lunching range. Couple that with the cupcake explosion of the past six months, and you were left with plenty of options to satisfy that afternoon sweet tooth. Here are the nominees for best Sweets in Midtown:

Vote for your favorite after the jump.

  • This is so overwhelmingly Treats Truck, the category should just be “What’s the best treat on the Treats Truck?”

  • I can see the smoke leaking out from blondie’s and brownie’s ears….

  • lolz. i think zach covers the trucks pretty evenly. may the best dessert win!!!

  • Treats Truck is great for sure and they get extra points for being so unflappably nice but the Dessert Truck sells items the average person can’t easily make at home or get without dropping $100 a head at Le Cirque. I can buy great cookies at a few places in midtown but where else can I buy a dark chocolate bomb mousse?

  • Niko, You do know how easy it is to *bake* great cookies yourself, right? A few minutes in the kitchen and, voila!, treats to share with the whole office. (If you like your coworkers, that is…)

  • Moze – that is what I was saying, the DESSERT TRUCK rather than the Treats Truck makes items not easily made at home.

  • Yup, I get it. But you still mentioned how you can buy great cookies at several places, and I was pointing out how it is pretty darned easy (and a WHOLE lot cheaper) to bake them, and have lots of them! ($1-2 per cookie is insane–I can add a lot of tasty embellishments to a whole batch for a small fraction of that and have more fun making them in the process). Unlike many ML options (streetmeat, etc.), stuff like cookies and sandwiches keep pretty well and can be made at home with just a bit of forethought. Seems to be a fair option here, now that ML coverage includes stuff like “make your own sandwich”!

  • This one is going to require more research…

  • Dessert Truck all the way

  • moze- i know people who can’t handle the pre-made cookie dough. i’m dead serious.

  • Crumbs tastes like preservatives. I love the dot cookies on the Treats Truck. Does the Desserts truck park anywhere near midtown??

  • The freshly baked waffles at Wafels & Dinges are unbeatable! I think they are the only one making stuff fresh in the truck, and that deserves some recognition…uh?
