Off the Menu Blimpie Sandwich

We all know about Latin food inside a Blimpie, but Fork in the Road brings word of the latest shenanigans going on inside the Blimpie on 46th btw. 5+6th where you can order a not-on-the-menu “Special Vegetarian” sandwich involving doritos and a spicy green chile chutney.  This sandwich is definitely on my list for this week.  Midtown Lunch early adopters, feel free to comment below…

Prefer the Spanish food?  The Latin food that used to be in the Blimpie on 6th Ave. btw. 37+38th is now next door sharing space with the Gujarati Indian Steam table and newly opened Taj Delhi Chat.  Or there is another Blimpie with Latin food on 35th btw. 7+8th.

  • Vegetarian sandwich?

Too much bbq meat over the holiday weekend?

    Say it isn’t so.

  • Thks to sarah in the village voice for a flattering review on blimpie’s off-menu vegetarian sandwich – our infamous Nacho Cheese Sandwich. Some have even come as far as times sq & from 57th st. We not only have Indians from all over but we also have a small group of non-Indian regulars for this. Popularized by shreenath the prior owner, there are a few imitators but they can not match our fiery hot tasting chutney sauce & all the ingredients we provide. This is by no means a marketing pitch but just to say thanks to both Sarah & also Zack of http://www.midtownlunch.com who linked up his site to Sarah’s village voice review. Enjoy!

  • I just had this amazing sandwich. I was skeptical as I usually am not that thrilled with vegetarian food but this sandwich definitely filled me up and was quite tasty! Make sure you enjoy spicy food, the chutney is HOT (just how i like it).

Interestingly its very similar to one of my favorite breakfast creations: a piping hot Grands! Biscuit with green chutney, mustard, and lay’s potato chips — try it out sometime, you will not regret it!

  • What used to be a newsstand (they used to have a huge rack of magazines in there, I swear, and the space was half the width) is becoming a bona fide ML eatery. You’ll have to add another slash to the Gujarati Indian Steam table/Taj Delhi Chat/Latin food/VEGETARIAN MIDDLE EASTERN FOOD (haven’t tried it yet, though, and it’s not all that cheap).

  • Doritos and a spicy green chile chutney? I would never consider that pairing, but I’m sold. Can’t wait to try it.

  • This is great! What a discovery. I’ve always loved how each Blimpie location is just a little bit different.
