PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Blondie”

Every Tuesday I turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. Today it’s Siobhan, but you probably know her as “Blondie,” half of the duo “Blondie and Brownie” from the blog of the same name. An avid Midtown Lunch’er, Blondie loves pizza and has been eating her way through the Treats Truck one treat at a time…

blondieName: Blondie

Age:
Mid 20s

Occupation:
Freelancing at an ad agency, but my passion lies in the blogosphere (http://blondieandbrownie.blogspot.com)

Where in Midtown do you Work?:
Grand Central Area

Favorite Kind of Food:
Dessert, pizza, peanut butter, cheese, BBQ, and lately (and very surprisingly), Indian

Least Favorite Kind of Food:
Metro. It smells funny; I won’t even eat it when it’s free.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown:
I’m a big fan of the chicken pita at Kwik Meal (45th & 6th), and the chicken, rice and beans from Sophie’s Cuban (multiple locations.) Also, I wish I was more to the west so that I could enjoy Kati Roll (on 38th btw. 5+6th) more often.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often?
My coworkers tend to get Metro and Bistro Gourmet, two places I’d rather starve them eat at. Sometimes my body calls out for nutrients, and I’ll give it some Cosi.

Place you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? I did first hear about the Treats Truck here. Thank you Zach.

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? With all the posts Danny on Food in Mouth has been doing about Portland, Oregon, I’d say there. Of places I’ve actually been to, I’d have to go with the East Village.

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? It’s summer. I’m hot. Where can I get some bubble tea? (PS Bossman, I know what you want to ask; no they don’t.)

I have no idea what bossman wants to ask… but I’m guessing we’ll be enlightened in the comments. As for bubble tea, I feel like this has been discussed a bit in the past few weeks, but we can re-visit. Check out the milk tea with tapioca pearls I had last week, after the jump…

Lunch Box Buffet/Fay Da Bakery, Midtown NYC

From the Fay Da Bakery inside the Lunch Box Buffet which got written about on Friday. There’s also Ying Du (which I recommend), Hing Won (which most people don’t recommend) and Dishes (which is expensive and apparently not real bubble tea.) Anybody else care to comment? Feel free below…

And as always, if you want to be the next Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er, or you’d like to nominate somebody in your office, email me at zach@midtownlunch.com

  • Bossman, is there something we should know about here?

Also, anyone notice DDR has been missing in action… maybe it’s just me….

  • DDR commented on June 13 that he’d been traveling, and did he miss anything.

  • T-minus x minutes and counting til DocChuck’s written come-on to this person who is known as blondie but does not appear to have blonde hair.

  • perhaps she is BOB.

  • Blondie- I feel such a connection to you… its almost as if we knew each other in another life, where we would spend every other Wednesday locked in a room for 2 hours…hmmmmm… :)

  • I believe the question Blondie has answered in advance is “Do your bunny ears perk up when you’re horny?”

  • Could i venture a guess as to the “Blondie” name..Curtains maybe in fact do not match the rug.

  • All this talk about bubble tea makes me curious about trying it at the Fay Da on 34th. A lot of these places never get it right and sometimes the tapioca pearls are too gummy. Hmm..

  • “Curtains maybe in fact do not match the rug.”

    How uncouth……..

………everyone knows it’s carpets and drapes.

Sheesh, you people are cruel one mention of interior design and I get a rep. WTF?

Blondie, very nice look…. well put together. It shows an uncommon attention to detail. I bet you’re an excellent cook where that’s always an admirable trait, in fact, I’d bet dollars to donuts (calm down,Zach it’s a sure thing) you can also toss a mean salad.

    Tally-ho!

  • Stan, wtf does BOB mean?

Wayne, they’re pig ears, not bunny ears. And why, yes, yes they do.

    Bossman, you make me blush.

  • BOB — Blonde on Bottom

  • That, my dear, is between me and Bossman.

  • Maybe Zach should just start posting crotch shots with every profile, save us some time every Tuesday

  • BOB means Battery Operated Buddy.

Hmmmm……but darkglasses….lovely bone structure..and then it goes all victoria beckham with the glasses.

As for the collars and cuffs thing,im far too much of a gentleman to ask.

    Needs butter.

  • Great profile. I recently read blondie’s post regarding sophie’s cuban and weird dating rituals (taking pics of all your food and excursions for banana pudding.) Is Bossman the dater from the back forty post?????

  • Butter? That wouldn’t last a second around her…melted butter….mmmmmmm.

Blondie, I’m going to venture on to your blog in hopes of finding an email address .. use the number the next time your body is calling for “nutrients”.

  • Rudy is doing his Brando impersonation

    “Get the butter”

  • wow, yeah, so, um, bubble tea.

  • Bubble tea in midtown? Buffet on 34th btw 7/8th, the bakery on 35th btw 7th and 8th, or in Lil Korea. Not sure what’s available north of there. BOB is the new BYOB? What exactly are you sitting upon in that pic?

  • My dearest Blondie:

My wife (ours is a joyous May December relationship, if you really must know) and I were perusing a local flea market for Franklin Mint items this morning and, as she haggled with a vendor, a retired racing greyhound being walking off-leash apparently mistook my luxurious new hairpiece for “Swifty!” Leaping over a table of Thomas Kinkaid collectables, the hound tore the toupee from my pate and made off with it. My wife threw the first thing she saw (a striking Jacqueline Onassis portrait doll, crafted of lifelike vinyl) at the greyhound as it loped off with my hairpiece in its toothy grasp. Luckily, nothing was hurt but for my pride and my pocketbook (the Thomas Kinkaid vendor was NOT very understanding).

When I returned home, I immediately turned my attention to my healing passion: internet mischief.

Surfing immediately to Midtown Lunch (saved in my “favorites,” by the way), I was delighted to find yet another young, nubile “Luncher” profiled here. I enjoyed the intimate details you shared with us though I am entirely disinterested in the status of your “rug,” so-called (though my wife might be of assistance with that — she owns a chain of very successful laser hair removal facilities).

What I was most struck by is your UNCANNY resemblance to the Jacqueline Onassis portrait doll my wife used as a weapon against that mange-addled greyhound!

In the ensuing confusion, I’m afraid I lost track of it. Perhaps it was collected by the police with the other evidence. If so, I simply must have it!

I shall pay any price (I am a man of considerable means, if that excites you). Once it is mine, I shall construct a tiny little paper “bunny hat” exactly like yours, perch it on the Jacquie doll’s perfectly coiffed head and make it the centerpiece of my figurine cabinet (lighted!). You will be in my thoughts.

And you will be seeing me at your blog.

    Fond Regards,

    Chuck, PhD
