PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Lawrence”

Every Tuesday I turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Lawrence, a sports guy and neophyte blogger with a lot of favorite lunches…

Name: Lawrence

Age:
23

Occupation:
Production Assistant (and author of the blog http://nyceats.wordpress.com/ )

Where in Midtown do you Work?:
SportsNet New York

Favorite Kind of Food:
Burgers, ribs, pizza, and spicy Thai food

Least Favorite Kind of Food:
Anything served in the Midtown mega-lunch store

Favorite Place to Eat Lunch in Midtown:
The Bacon Cheeseburger w/ Fried Onions from Five Guys (55th btw. 5+6th). 2 Cheeseburgers with everything but mayo and mustard, an order of fries, and a Sam Adams from Burger Joint (56th btw. 6+7th). Extra Spicy Pork Drunken Noodles from Topaz Thai (56th btw. 6+7th). Chilorio Mexican style pulled pork tacos, corn chips, salsa, and Watermelon Aqua Fresca from Pampano Taqueria(3rd Ave. btw. 49+50th). Trainwreck cheese fries, Pulled Pork Sandwich, and Banana Pudding from Virgil’s BBQ (44th btw. 5+6th).  1 regular slice, 1 sicilian (only if fresh) or grilled chicken hero w/ fresh mozz, roasted peppers and roasted eggplant from Bella Napoli Pizza (49th btw. 6+7th). The G3 (grilled roast beef, fried onions, L & T, pickles, bacon, american cheese) with Russian Dressing instead of A1 or Smoked Chicken Deluxe (chicken cutlet, american cheese, grilled pastrami, L & T, with russian) from Lenny’s.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often:
Though I don’t EVER eat there, my co-workers love Cafe Duke, I hate it, it smells funky outside, which is never a good sign, and I know at least 6 people who’ve gotten violently ill from eatingsandwiches or food from the buffet.

Place you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch:
Kati Roll, Tony the Dragon, Carnegie John’s, Jannero’s  (I’m guessing he means Jiannetto’s Pizza Truck?  -zach), & the Daisy Mays Cart.

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why?
The Nexus of the Universe (1st and 1st for non-Seinfeld fans). It’s close to the LES (Georgia’s Eastside BBQ, Katz’s, Tiny’s) and the East Village (too many to list) and ABC City. No greater concentration of cheap and awesome eateries.

Interesting that you mention Bella Napoli on 49th btw. 6+7th.  It has sort of flown under the radar on this site- I think because I take it for granted.  Bella Napoli is right downstairs from my office building, and the go-to pizza place for my entire office.  It can get a little pricey, but it certainly is good pizza.  And once I had a meatball sub there that made me want a nap for the rest of the afternoon…

They actually have an amazing video up on You Tube that may warrant the invention of  a new term:  The Pizza Porno.  Check it out after the jump…

The food.  The music.  The slow motion editing.  The four fat tourist ladies from the Midwest masquerading as “Times Square Workers”.  And that’s just the first 2 minutes of a 5 minute video.

And just when you think it’s over (about 3:30 in)… slow motion shots of uncooked pizza toppings!  Watching all 5 minutes of the video, I couldn’t help but think- somebody actually took the time to make this thing.  Brilliant…

  • Rudy is Hilarious

  • Where’s your blog Calling you out? I’m not going to sit here and defend myself to you and Rudy McBagel.

It’s unbelievable to me that this all started because I like talking about food and sharing my culinary adventures.

Unreal. And I agree with you, Midtown Lunch is a much better blog than mine.

  • Especially considering my Blog has been up for 7 whole days.

  • Zach thinking to himself… (‘I wonder why it’s like pulling teeth getting people to be profiled’)

  • ME next Zach!!!

I shall be dressed as Edgar Hoover in 6″ Blahniks and a tiarra.

  • Lawrence – from your blog I see you’re a fan of the rib. I need someone to have the ribs at ESPNZone in Times Square and report back. I’m not sure how it’s possible, but in my opinion, their ribs are excellent. I need someone else to back me up on this because people think I’m nuts for even suggesting it.

  • DDR, is that a date request??

  • you may be nuts — you are what you eat after all

  • If we are indeed what we eat, then given this morning’s breakfast, I’m Bazooka Joe.

Can we all come to an agreement to refrain from textual wedgies in all future profiles? This is so damn ridiculous.

  • OOOh, e-wedgies. Way to coin a phrase, Andie.

  • call me crazy but i’m happy being immature and in college and that my dad will pick up a few things for me now and then so as not to leave me broke

calling you out – that post was a little harsh and id apologize if i cared if i offended you…and are you really offending someones blog and calling me immature…my brothers blog reflects my brothers need to share his love for food and share his opinion with other people who care if you don’t care then don’t go to it

Andie- the mature side of me suggests a more nutritious breakfast

Zach- a younger brother midtown-lunch profile? worked there two summers in a row now and probably going to be three…

  • I too, have eaten out on the dad’s credit card at Virgil’s with the two aforementioned brothers. And being free and all, the meal was good, but I’d never drop 30 bucks myself on it.

I also agree, the superman costume is totally gay and lame, but this guy PULLS CHICKS!!! I’ve seen it firsthand on multiple occasions people…maybe we could all learn a thing or two from this guy..

  • wow, anyone complaining that this guy gave “too many” good places to eat is seriously a huge homo

  • Lawrence – Nice move with the Super Man costume…..although where are the glasses and briefcase?

I’ll be back in Manhattan for the Bleecker st. Five Guys. We’ll have to get a beer or two…or three when I return. Nice blog!

Calling you Out – Ever come to DC? If not, keep in touch and I’ll treat you to Five Guys and Beer when I return…….55th between 5th and 6th.

  • TREY –

Good shit man, good to hear from you. Thanks for the kind words.

Give me a shout at nyc.eats@yahoo.com and we’ll catch up.

  • old profile, but I love this guy’s blog; just straight keepin-it-real-ness on the greasy food tip. plus, the guy mourned the death of ziggiz as much as I did. glad you are keeping on your stuff, man.
