How About Reuben Tacos: A Revisit to Quetzally

When Quetzally opened on 12th and Fitzwater in 2013, I was slightly obsessed with how this tiny, unassuming spot delivered authentic Mexican plates for cheap without me having to cross Washington Ave. For real, I kept bothering my friends to check it out with me. When we arrived for a revisit,  I was thrilled to find a revamped menu, with creative tacos I would have never expected.

There was no way I was not going to order the reuben tacos ($9)- griddled little bites of corned beef, saurkraut, and russian dressing. There was barely anything Mexicanized about this besides the tortillas and the clever idea of crisping the corned beef. The unorthodox preparation would make even your rabbi happy.

Brisket tacos (above above) and goat tacos (above) both featured slowly cooked shredded meat, three tacos each. The charred brisket meat and red sauce was my favorite of the two, but the simple, tender goat was impressively ungamey.

For dessert, I missed the condensed milk shower that usually comes with tres leches, but the hot, soft centered churros more than made up for it. Don’t miss them.

I honestly don’t understand how this place isn’t packed at all times, especially given the proximity to Center City and the $5 margarita mix. If the business doesn’t make it… I blame YOU! Make sure they stick around by having an awesome meal there immediately.
