A GRILLED Italian from Fat Joe’s

One of my favorite rules to break is sneaking food in to movies.  On my way to a movie down on Columbus Blvd, I had a sandwich craving. This led me to Fat Joe’s, a South Philly take out spot that has been around for only a few years. The menu is packed with sandwiches and awesome sounding, greasy appetizers (i.e.  battered eggplant fries topped with rabe, peppers, sharp and mild provolone)

As a lover of Italian sandwiches in all forms, I had no choice but to order the Desperado- an Italian sandwich with all deli meats griddled up on the grill! Sometimes you want the grilledness that a panini provides, but inside a heartier, non- smushed roll.  Grilling meats only amps up their savory flavor; it brings the fat the surface and closer to your mouth*.  I have been known to use the microwave in a pinch to achieve this effect. This hefty sandwich made me very happy during my movie time.

What do you like to sneak in to movies? Would you bring in some Fat Joe’s?

*that’s just a theory I made up, but I am pretty sure it is accurate
