Round 2 Fooled Me at Cafe Fulya

I visited Turkish cafe, Cafe Fulya, several years ago and really enjoyed the laid back coffee shop vibe as well as the cold vegetable appetizers, Turkish toast with pepperoni, and manti (turkish dumplings). It is tucked in the corner of 2nd and Monroe, so I sort of forgot about for a while. Manti is no longer on the menu, which was the first disappointment for me.

I have been eating pretty heavy lately, so tabbouleh sounded good. While it wasn’t bad and it had the right acidity, it was missing the fresh herbs that give tabbouleh its brightness.

A classic grilled cheese was not as fun as the Turkish toast, the thicker bread didn’t work as well.

The zucchini pancake was part of the appetizer sampler I tried on my previous visit, however I recall being impressed with it back then. This time around I found it extremely underseasoned.

The one saving grace of the meal was the oversized chai latte. Luckily, each plate was under $6. I was sad to be let down by this revisit; the space is cute and it would be a nice alternative to the average coffee shop.  Sticking to hot drinks and maybe pastries or something less involved could be the way to go here.
