The Serious Eats piece should have been titled “One Particular Chef’s Personal Favorite Places East of Broad and South of Market” (E.Bro-SOMA?), but I realize that’s the site editor’s fault.

I’ll definitely have to check out that Atlantic Pizza place, though. Sounds right up my alley, especially since I’m soon going to begin to undertake a long-planned project of documenting our remaining old school luncheonettes, with a specific focus around here under the Frankford El, and in Port Richmond, but also generally anywhere they exist, and I know there are still certainly also a bunch of those down that way, too…

  • that pic does not appear in any of the linked stories.

is it from Johns Roast Pork?

I’ll have to give John’s cheesesteak another try one day. Had it once, and ate it immediately, so that wasn’t the problem. Everything was rather… wet (as in watery) and clumpy? Maybe I just hit them on an off day. Their roast pork is definitely my favorite in town. I’d probably rank Joe’s my number one steak anymore. Was disappointed with Dalessandro’s last time I was out that way, a few months back, and Chubby’s was probably even slightly better that time.
