Passover Friendly Salad at Sweetgreen
I just spent the past few days in NY for Passover being well fed by my mommy. Now that I am back, I have to feed myself. It gets tricky keeping it breadless in the best sandwich city in the world. I figured it was as good a time as any to check out the month old Washington Square location of Sweetgreen.
Sweetgreen is a chain that does salads, juices, wraps, and soups- all that healthy stuff. The salads are assembled at the counter and mixed up for you.
I made my own salad bowl, avoiding the non kosher ingredients like farro and croutons. I also had to pass on the bread that comes with each salad. The bowls come with a choice of green, a dressing, and 4 toppings. Anything additional is more $. I picked spinach and mesclun with apple, corn, tomatoes, and cucumber. Then I added goat cheese and avocado ($1.25 each). It ended up being close to $10. Kind of painful for a meatless meal. However, the pesto vinaigrette was excellent and all the ingredients were fresh; its hard to find a perfectly ripe avocado.
One hour later, while grocery shopping, this giant salad from Iovine’s in Reading Terminal costs half as much. You could find a $1 avocado and a few dollars worth of goat cheese and have 2 salads, easy enough, though not quite as convenient as having it all made in seconds for you.
Where else should I think about for carbless dining?

Since you’re down with corn, I’m sure you’re cool with quinoa, too. That opens up a whole ‘nother world of soups, and also Whole Foods salad bars, which can be surprisingly decent.
Also, seconding tor’s suggestion. While you’re there, check out the Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American exhibition, which is my single favorite museum exhibition of all time.
I know Mama’s is closed through the 23rd… is Hamifgash open through the holiday?
It’s shakshuka weather again for another couple days, at least through lunch. Cafe Ole or Soup Kitchen Cafe? I haven’t opened my matbucha and falafel truck yet, and probably never will, but I think Zahav makes a great version of the former that works for the holiday, too?

I had Rotisseur on Tuesday for a quarter chicken and a side of beets and feta!
Also not the cheapest option, but was tasty!
