7 Reasons to Hate L.A. Lunching (The Chinese Food & Chego Edition)

I try to be positive here on Midtown Lunch… and I freakin’ love this city.  The food is amazing, and there’s no better place to be a “Midtown Lunch’er”.    But as much as I love most of the food in L.A. (and will defend it to the death against any outsiders, or natives with an inferiority complex) there are some things about lunching in this town that really annoy me.  Here are 7 of them, LAist style, for your enjoyment…

The Beef Roll from 101 Noodle Express in the Fox Hills Mall

1. You’re not allowed to complain about there being no good chinese food on the westside unless you eat at 101 Noodle Express in the Fox Hills Mall Westfield Culver City at least once a month. Your indifference already killed Kyochon. Please don’t let it happen again. Oh- and don’t give me this “It’s not as good as the one in SGV!” bullshit.  This is why we can never have nice things, westside.

2. Speaking of the westside… I know it was you Chego.  You broke my heart.  You broke my heart.

3.  Remember how yesterday I pretended that the orange chicken and coconut shrimp lunch specials at the new Pa Ord didn’t bother me.  I lied.  What a bunch of catering-to-white-people-with-no-taste bullshit. Why Pa Ord?  Why?

Nice try Pei Wei. You could have been a contender.

4. Speaking of orange chicken,  topping a Chinese chicken salad with orange chicken should be a slam dunk.  It should be. Hopefully one day somebody will figure this out.

5.  Did you know that Pizzeria Mozza has the greatest lunch deal of all time at their bar?  $20 gets you any pizza, a glass of wine, and a dessert, but it’s only available Monday through Thursday… information that would have been helpful to me before I went this past Friday! I got the glass of wine and dessert anyway (and just paid full price.)  It was awesome.  I can’t stay mad at you Mozza.

6.  Being able to get banh mi and pho from Mr. Baguette in Downtown L.A. is AWESOME. Spending 20 minutes looking for it in the horrible maze that is The Westin Bonaventure?  Not so much.  Screw you John Portman. (I kid Jon Portman.  I kid.)

7.  You know I love you Bludso’s Bar & Cue, but only being open for lunch on the weekends is a slap in the face to weekday, BBQ loving, lunch aficionados… aka ME.  Get it together.  I want to be able to put your meat in my mouth at Noon on any and every day I choose.
