Out of bounds (but in my 'hood) is a perennial favorite, Eisenbergs (5th Ave around 22nd St). Another tasty option is Johny's Luncheonette (25th-6th/7th), which has a tasty tuna melt on pita and a really good 'protein surge' sub of tuna salad with 3 griddled egg whites.

you shall laugh, but Subway is not "that bad" just load up with shredded carrots, cucumber and black pepper and its a pretty good $5 deal
or....
tuna salad at the weird little sandwhich place between 7th and broadway on 39th is pretty good too.
these are more of tuna on a hero sort of sandwhiches and not some sort of girly tuna sandwich with the crusts cut off....

I've been a lifelong fan of Blimpie's tuna.
And for me, Blimpies > Subway
-
adamprato is starting to sound like my arch-nemesis.
Subway > Blimpies
I say we have a tunapalooza!
-
Basically, what I hate about subway:
- The 'grinder' style roll (reminds me of a big hotdog bun, and I don't like hotdog buns).
- The cheese triangle scam. -
I'm with Adam here. Blimpies >> Subway.

If you feel like spending $7.75 on a tuna sandwich, the version at Macaron is excellent. It's a Friday-only special and they usually make it on 8-grain, but I ask for it on baguette. They make their own mayo and add grilled cherry tomatoes and slices of avocado. It's really, really good.

btw, I tried Macaron Cafe's macarons last week and i thought they tasted artificial. I think madeleine patisserie on 23rd st makes the best macarons in NYC.
-
I'm with Adam and stevenp here - Blimpies tuna much better than Subway tuna.
And Eisenberg's rocks.

mkim - I've tried macaron cafe's macarons and I thought they were delicious (not that i'm an expert or anything)... i'll have to try madeleine patisserie's though for comparison
btw - I've also tried maison du chocolat's macarons and I was not a big fan
-
i trust no ones's tuna salad but my own. tuna, celery, mayo pepper, salt lemon juice paprika. cusinarted.
-
wslee00, i am not a big fan of macarons from Maison du chocolat either. I was so disappointed when they changed their recipe a few years ago. They now put jam instead of cream.
Try Madeleine, especially the passion fruit flavor. I think they are alot better than Macaron cafe(too sweet and too artificial taste, my husband agreed too) -
Blimpies is much better than Subway for everything - not just tuna

what is your favorite place for tuna melts and/or tuna sandwiches? I go to the citi group building deli, but I figure there's gotta be somewhere better.
