If they're pesca-vegetarians, ipanema has a lot of fish dishes. Otherwise, they do the typical "plate of side dishes" for vegetarians which is usually black beans, rice, fried bananas, collard greens, potatoes. That said, Ipanema's lunch specials are about $15, ordinary entrees are $19, so that might be out of the budget.
Was sukhadia one of those indian buffets? I'm a devout carnivore, and Sukhadia is one of the vegetarian places I would be happy to go to.
That aside, I would focus on Pizza&Pasta places, which are probably easiest for vegetarians (assuming they're not vegan and can eat cheese).

Actually, with veg's in tow, Akdeniz (right next to ipanema) might be a good option. They have a lot of vegetarian dishes.

Akdeniz is a good idea! I grabbed a quick dinner there once and was happily surprised. Thanks for the Sukhadia rec. I'll look into that.
Adam - we ended up last year at a generic Italian spot, at Figaro's on W 44. Yick. Any better pasta spots you know of?

P.S. - I think we're going to Curry Dreams for the $11.95 buffet.

We work at 500 5th Ave. There will be about a dozen of us, so we need a sitdown place with larger tables. Our price point is around $10-15 with tip. I'd like to go to Ipanema, but two of our party are vegetarians. I'm really stuck! I searched through this site for "vegetarian" and only came up with Indian buffets and falafel trucks. Indian is not a bad pick, but I don't know of any within 5 block radius. Thanks!
