Churrascaria Plataforma! http://www.churrascariaplataforma.com/
although I think the buffet alone is $50 and doesn't cover drinks. but it would be quite the send off...
(Not sure what it is about your post that made me think of this place... it's not even one of the best restaurants in NYC. It just popped into my head when reading your post.)
-
If you love meat, Zach's pick is a spectacular send off. I'd also say a family-style Italian restaurant would be perfect as well.
-
I'd go to Luger's for steak and slab bacon. Prices are high but the food feeds plenty.
-
ooh.. carmine's!!!!!
-
all of these suggestions suck other than luger's
-
i don't care what anyone says.. i love carmine's.
what about hill country? yum moist brisket.
-
and @kcijones001 - these are merely suggestions. leave it up to eats-a-lot to decide what is the best option. no need to impose your opinion on everyone else. this is like your 2nd not-so-nice comment on 2 forums... bad day?

Tony's DiNapoli if Carmine's is booked solid. I like Italian family-style too.
For something different, Ichi Umi so you can pig-out on Japanese buffet.
-
First off: ML has been blocked at my work. WTF?!?
We went to Luger's a month ago. Dy-no-mite. But not trying to make it rain again.
It just so happens that I LOVE MEAT. Yeah, I said it. I always wanted to go to Churrascaria, but it might be a little pricey for this deal. I'll take a vote.
What's the deal with Carmine's and Tony DiNapoli's?
And monstermooch, it's SIR eats-a-lot. I had to do a lot to get that title...
-
hahaha sorry SIR eats-a-lot. i chose whichever part of your name i thought was more significant. did i choose wrong or do you just like being called by your full name?
never been to Tony DiNapoli's, but from what i hear, it's similar to Carmine's but maybe not AS good? Just think huge portions of pastas and meats. Everything is decent. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's a fun rowdy spot where everyone will get to eat a lot for cheap.
was that a nix on hill country?
-
I've been to both carmine's and tony's dinapoli. i like both. carmine's could be slightly better but it could also be slightly overrated. tony's has good food and does not fall behind from carmine's in my opinion. all about preference though. i would go to either establishment for their family-style dinner portions

m^2: i'm not your run-of-the-mill eats-a-lot. I'm "sir eats-a-lot". Riddle me this: would a non-sir use this many hyphens??? If I called you mooch, that would apparently be an understatement, and if I called you monster, I'm assuming we'd have to duel.
Hill country is on my short list (I eat a lot of BBQ and I got that discount dealie from Zach's link), but I think we're looking a little higher than that.
SMO: any must-haves at either place? what sort of tabs would we be looking at?
-
Well, I'm a big chicken parm and linguine/ spaghetti/ penne alla vokda fan. Not big on rigatoni or angel hair (but that's just personal pref.) I did enjoy the angel hair with seafood and red sauce.
Calamari always a good starter, Chicken marsala, italian sausage and meatballs are alright for both places - hope your guests are down. Veal is okay but I'm not as impressed with as the chicken dishes. Desserts can be hit or miss at both. I like the strawberry shortcakes. Tiramisu's and Tartufos were average IMO.The menus have a good amount of options at both establishments to cater to your party's preferences. I just like what I like to eat. Opinions are varying of course by individual (For your sake sir-eats-a-lot, must-haves are subjective.) The tab will depend on the size of your party. I'd expect to pay about 40-50 a person if you guys go all out on the entrees but also account more if everyone drinks and if seafood/ steaks are ordered. I paid about 45 for a bday dinner of 12, but we didn't chase down any seafood/ steaks and we didn't drink heavily.
I use to love the X-Mas lunches at Carmine's on 91st at my old job. Each person had to have eaten and drank over to an average of 100 per. All-out feasts. LOL.

So the roomie is off to the marines *sniffle*
We're gonna have a little send off dinner on Sat, but we're not sure where to go. Price can't be too crazy; we're aiming for ~$50 but we can tip the scales for something good. Any must haves? All cuisines are fair game.
