If you're interested in late night street meat, do yourself a favor and skip the famous cart. Walk down to 46th st and get some Kati Rolls from the Biryani Cart.
Chris, are those restaurants open at 10pm or later?
-
Adam, all those suggestions except for Insieme and Katsuhama have dinner service past 10pm.
I'm surprised you didn't suggest Ipanema. :P
-
Hmm, Hagi is a good suggestion.
Never have tried Biryani Cart, not a bad idea either.
Now, do I want to go cheap, or pay a bit more for Hagi. I'm guessing its still crowded past dinner time
-
Kati rolls are a good choice (one of my favs. for dinner) but I wouldn't skip the famous halal cart's food either. There are 3 carts that the Halal Guys run. Usually ex-Shendy's on 52/6 has no line and the other SE 53/6 usually has a line. The SW 53/6 is the original, with longest line, and not worth the wait unless you're just doing it for the experience. Just hit up 52/6 if you want the food. The yellow WE ARE DIFFERENT plastic bags cannot be mistaken.

Chris, Hagi can creep up to expensive depending on what you get. And usually I leave with a decent dent in my wallet.
Reg, it doesn't get too bad during a mid weekday like today. At least you can list your phone number and skip over to City Lobster for some oysters while you wait. If you get out late enough you can do the McCormick's and Schmick's resumed HH.

thanks for the info mghu. Just did some reading, didn't know McCormicks had such a good happy hour. I do like their food but not sure thats the atmosphere I'm in the mood for.
StreetMeas, I'm guessing the old midtownlunch article is outdated, but it mentioned the halal guys had a second cart also on 53/6. I'm assuming now they only have the main cart and one on 52/6? That's fine with me, a block less I need to go to eat :)
-
I think SMO meant to say 52nd and 7th instead of the SW corner 53rd and 6th in his list of Halal Guys carts during the day. That SW corner is occupied daily by the "impostor cart", but it did quite well in Streetmeatapalooza 3, so your mileage may vary.
It's all moot after 7pm, though, as everyone disappears and there's just the Halal Guys real cart moved to that SW 53rd/6th corner.
-
Chris, I would have! But I thought the poster was looking for after-10 spots :)
-
Reg, I read your thread and you said "Late Night," not Lunch. The imposter cart on SW 53/6 is during lunch hours. And David (next time read the post) is wrong about 52/7 (way to give the wrong address) - there is a cart on 53/7 and only there during lunch, and they supposedly move that cart to original Halal Guys on SW 53/6 after 7pm. It all happens on Sixth Avenue at night.

The 52/6 is their newest cart owned by Halal Guys. They finished 5th this year in SMP3. It used to be operated by Shendy's. Halal Guys operates 3 carts now. Two on 53/6 at night and the one on 52/6 on the same block as SW 53/6 - almost across from each other. Not many people appreciate the 52/6 so it hasn't been crowded. If you're only after the food, just head there.
-
awesome, thanks. I think thats what I'll go with, the 52/6th cart. can't wait mmmm
thanks everyone!

There's a BXL in midtown west? Is it somehow more expensive than the one in midtown east, due to proximity to times square?
-
I went with famous halal on 62 and 6th. Like I read somewhere, I saw a guy carrying some food from there to the main cart lol. It was funny seeing the people lined up over there.
Food was alright, I thought that kwik was better though for that style, and I might have liked trini paki more than both. I know not everyone likes their spices though
Tonight I'll be at Irving Plaza. Out of Bounds, not sure where to research :)

Going to see Conan tonight at radio city music hall so I want to figure out what I'm going to go eat after. I'm usually not in the city at night so not sure what the popular options are, I'm guessing it will be at least 10pm. I'm thinking about trying the famous halal cart on 53rd and 6th. VERY close to radio city. Any other ideas?
