Lenny's thanksgiving sandwich or Cosi's version is probably the ONLY generic franchise/deli I have EVER eaten at in NYC. It was just OK, meh, but my coworker was a vegetarian so these spots worked out well for us and the times we needed take-out to eat over at Central Park. Even before I had ever read ML, I was waay more satisfied walking around and finding a hole in the wall to eat at.

Oh, I also like Panera Bread but they in Queens and LI.
I don't like Au Bon Pain. -
I like Au Bon Pain. They make this spicy cheese bagel i love for breakfast...and also, their sandwiches are pretty good.

I'll eat Au Bon Pain if there's nothing else (my only option for food/ coffee/ breakfast or I only have credit card and it's across my office - too bad Street Carts don't take plastic) but it's really the same as Metro and Europa to me. I kinda like Pax a little bit more but they're also just another deli to me.

Actually I am not too sure if they are franchises...
Anyways, to name a few, there is Food Merchants Cafe, Bistro Cafe, Blake and Todd, Cafe Metro, Europa Cafe, Guy and Gallard, Pax, Devon & Blakely....
Personally, I like Blake and Todd the best because they use good artisan bread for their sandwiches. They also have really good dessets(yummy coconut macaroon) which is rare for a deli cafe.
What's your favorite?
