What is your favorite Deli/cafe franchise?

mkim1206

Actually I am not too sure if they are franchises...
Anyways, to name a few, there is Food Merchants Cafe, Bistro Cafe, Blake and Todd, Cafe Metro, Europa Cafe, Guy and Gallard, Pax, Devon & Blakely....
Personally, I like Blake and Todd the best because they use good artisan bread for their sandwiches. They also have really good dessets(yummy coconut macaroon) which is rare for a deli cafe.
What's your favorite?

I think Zach may ban you from the site for posing this question.

  2. mkim1206

Why? because it's not about cart???

No, because he (and most people here) dislike the typical "generic midtown deli".

    click on "about" above.

    From this url:

To me, lunch hour is sacred- and I’m not going to waste it in some generic Midtown deli. This site will hopefully be a place for you to find the gems in a sea of duds (and there are a lot of those).

Bistro Cafe (i've only been to the location on 34th btwn 8th & 9th) isn't THAT bad.

Pax makes me gag and the prices make me cringe.

I hate the typical general delis as much as you or he hates them but everyone has at least one or two delis they rely on. Let's be realistic too.
anyways, Blake and Todd has some quality food.

It's true, I am anti generic midtown deli... but if one of them was doing something amazing to distinguish themselves, I'd be all about hearing about it (or trying it.)

Best example of this... Cafe Duke on 51st btw. 5+6th. Love it.

For loving any branch of Cafe Duke (home of the jumbo fake shrimp)... Zach should be banned from this site

I know i may face the rath of jahovah/mossad......but Katz's is rude over priced and full of wankers.

  10. mkim1206

@Rudy, it reminds me of recent NY times article about Di Fara pizza in brooklyn charging $5 for a slice.

I'm sorry... I love the fake shrimp. They are really tasty at the Cafe Duke on 51st!

Fake Shrimp = orange-colored fish paste?
Fake crab meat too. Enjoy the MSG-enriched fish paste. I don't hate. I can hang with it in small quantities too. But to call it shrimp or crab? *sarcastic* Fun times!

And Forget Pax. Metro and Europa are already a big-time ripoff.

I like Pret (Well, when they're not hassling the trucks and just sevring up fresh food) and at least they don't franchise.
