I think for a while when I was a kid, my mom would open a can once a week (5 in the family, though not all of us ate it). Someone must not have liked it because she would put it in a dish to put on top of the rice in the rice cooker so it wouldn't mingle... and I think it would be finished over a couple of days. I remember liking the dow see (black beans) more than the fish, but... nostalgia :)

You guys don't know what you're missing out on, Cheese. It's awesome when you grew up eating it. Fried, salty, oily and delicious so nowhere near healthy and goes great with white rice. I'm not even a big-time fish lover but this was great!!!

When I was way younger, I recall the can had more than a fish in it...like two puny ones. But the last time I ate it (over 7 years I believe), it was one skimpy fish. Was it only me? Maybe it depended on the brand. PRB was the one that my family bought.

For the record, if you find yourself opening the wrapper of a tin of kippered herring and find that it has been sitting around with a broken seal, don't spill it. You might have to part with a few layers of skin to get rid of the smell.

Sardines are the #1 food we should be eating, according to the article on Shine from Yahoo by the Editors of EatingWell Magazine.

So the ML Unicorn, Jenn, wasn't too far off with her lunching habits:

I probably won't eat it with oatmeal though.
