Vegetarian options in Koreatown?

ultraclay

Meeting up for lunch with a vegetarian friend from out of town. Want to go to Koreatown, probably BCD Tofu House. Any recommendations for my friend and/or an even better option on the strip worth checking out instead?

why would you be friends with a vegetarian? is it Sarah?

Hangawi is great, though a bit pricier than most of the restaurants in K-town proper. Is your friend pescatarian, or flat out straight veggie?

If they can handle seafood, almost any restaurant should be able to accommodate. However, almost all soups/stews will have an anchovy broth base so if they can't do fish, then stick w/Hangawi.

bibimbab with no meat is doable in most korean restaurants..i think...unless the restaurant is owned by steve.

Thanks all. No opinions on BCD Tofu House?

As far as how it is that I'm friend with a vegetarian, we've known each other too long for me to disown her now, so she's grandfathered in.

seoul garden has better soondooboo jjigae than BCD.

I agree w/MM. Seoul Garden has better sundubu, and it's a buck or two cheaper than BCD. Plus BCD always has a wait.

I've been to BCD Tofu house. I enjoyed it-- I got the veggie dol sot bi bimbap. The tofu was tasty-- the only think I'd say is that the banchan includes a tiny whole fried fish, head included. I eat fish on occasion and did my best but it was a little too intense for me, and then I felt wasteful and bad. So I guess it depends on how your friend* might feel about that. Also HanGawi is all vegetarian and I've been DYING to go so if you go please report back. Usually I just go to Woorjip b/c it costs like $1.

*Ultraclay and I are not friends IRL, but I consider him a brother in lunching.

Love BCD Tofu. I usually get the kimchee jiigae or the vegetable dumpling jiigae. Both are excellent.

  10. BCD tofu house is pretty good, but i still miss dae dong.

re: hangawi - all vegan, all boring, all bland. pretty pricy, expect to spend about 50$/head if you do non-alcoholic bev/appetizers (more than one order)/entree.
