the new focus of mtl

quamzibo

I've been a midtown lunch reader for over two years now but since Zach left I have to say, the focus has been on the part of midtown that is so far away from where I work that the site has practically become irrelevant to my lunching. I work on Lex in the 50s and all the places that are written about seem to be in the high 30s around 7th ave. I can't make it over there during lunch! Has anyone else noticed the change?

    change is good!

    (i work in herald square.)

  2. I work relatively close to you, and I've noticed it to. I don't really read the articles anymore. Just come to the forum to get everyone's POV on where I should be eating. Usually turns out better that way... more recs, and better recs.

Hmmm. Who cares about Herald Sq? :P

I work near sushi. There are some places that they have posted near our hood before. Midtown is a lot of area to cover.

I thought this topic was going to be about how the new focus is different from the old - when Zach was still around - and how well the ML Team has been performing. Oh well.

    Always change for the better!

chew on this. a quick browse of the front page right now:
pizza cer te (in my hood! horray!)
ramen totto (55 + bway) not opening for lunch, who cares, on the other side of the planet
lena latin grill (35 + 5) is that even midtown?
    pizza suprema (30 + 8) ditto
ok there is a crisp around here
the korean chicken trifecta I will never try because I will need to book a flight
    some cart at 39 + 7, couldn't care less
    etc etc
it's a bit hard to swallow (sorry)

Sorry, quamzibo. From now on, we'll have a crack team of reporters posted at every street corner within a 10 block radius of your office.

Did I mention these reporters are also mind-readers? Because that's what they're going to do - read your mind, and only update ML on topics that are relevant to you.

I hope this meets your needs.

I'm on 55th also. I think it's a combination of no new places opening around here, and theres a bigger concentration of office buildings vs. retail.

Q, Short lunch break or too lazy to walk around for lunch?

ML isn't only catered towards one person. If you don't like it or not care for a place because of location, then you don't have to read about it. Somebody else might appreciate the intel.

Midtown is a lot of area to cover.

There are some good carts on Park in the 50's. 100% Halal & Healthy has 2 - one with fried food at 54th & one with grilled food at 55th. Had a very nice fried shrimp & fish platter today. http://tinyurl.com/2a7k99v.

Uncle Gussy's at 51st is Greek, and has a good yogurt-based white sauce made by their Mom.

A little lower down in the high 40's is Steak Truck, Jerk Pan, El Rey del Sabor, Magdy's and XPL (which is also on 52nd & 3rd).

    Does this help you out?

yeah thanks. it's not so much that I don't know of places. I just wish the contributors on here did some more rounds up here so we'd get news about not just new places but new goings ons at older places. eh, I'm interviewing with HSBC tomorrow so soon my concerns might be irrelevant!

i'm on 54th and 3rd and feel your pain.. and just an FYI. they are opening a new pizza place next to PAX on 54th so maybe someone will cover it.

I'm actually not that far away from you and do try to eat lunch around there. I haven't found many ML places around though-many are out of price range or chains.

Those of us South of Grand Central get no love either. 34th to 42nd between Third and 5th is pretty much a barren wasteland (besides Zaiya, Yagura and Previti Pizza), both from a food standpoint (esp falafel and street meat) and a review standpoint... although I'm sure its a cause/effect situation.
