wow. the $8 price tag for a sandwich was keeping me away from the Torta Cubana. Now I may have to go for it. I usually go for 2 tacos and a Chalupa (which comes out to $8). Perhaps i will give this a try today....

Wish I read this prior to getting lunch today. I too was shying away from the price tag, opting for all the "normal" tortas at $6.

Where's the place located?
-
53rd and 7th, SW corner. It's next to the third Halal Guys cart.
-
There are at least 3 carts that I know of in the family: one at 53rd between Broadway and 7th Ave; one at 56th and Broadway; and one over on 9th Ave around 58th.

sounds good, gonna try it tomorrow. for some reason I've been avoiding it as I tried everything else on the menu
-
tried it, was really good.
-
finally got a chance to try it today. all i can say is, WOW. its a flavor and meat filled punch in the face. even the bread was good.
-
Got to the 53rd/7th cart today. WOW is right. Insanity. Lots of tasty pork chunks, spicy peppers, that egg... whereas I could polish off the regular tortas no problem, this thing could very reasonably be two meals for me. Torta Cubana, you've made my rotation.

I'm not up on downtown places but really want to try this. 56th is way north of 7th. I think I need a guide to help me find this!! HELP!!! Lol

Don, I don't quite follow. You're not "up on downtown"? This cart is in Midtown west on 53rd between Broadway & 7th. These guys are really good, but depending on where you are, might not be worth it. In any case, the closest train is the "53rd & 7th" stop on either the B, D, or E train. Good luck.
-
303, there are actually 3 of these carts if I'm not mistaken.
9th Ave between 58th & 59th St
West 53rd St between Broadway & 7th Ave
on Broadway at 56th Stfrom November @ http://newyorkstreetfood.com/22167/carts-carts-everywhere/

Ah, my bad. Thanks Cheese, and apologies to Don. I was away when the thread started and mainly honed in on Don's post - which sounded like he was lost.

I've been slowly eating my way through the Tacos y Quesadillas Mexico cart(s) menu. Last night, I ordered the "Torta Cubana" On the cart is a picture of a typical cuban sandwich...what I got was anything but typical.
Its basically the Mexican version of a garbage plate on torta bread. It had ham, carnitas (rotisserie pork), al pastor (roast pork), Cecina (salted beef), chorizo, a FRIED EGG, beans and all the usual torta toppings. It was crazy!
At $8 I think its the most expensive item on the menu....but if you want a crazy gutbomb of a sandwich I say go for it.
Anyone else had this monster? Thoughts?
