all a crap shoot, but if they're good, that goodness will only last a day.

Most of the cart fruit/veggies I've purchased have been pretty good. I've noticed they're popping up everywhere. Beware the large avocados if you see them. They're kind of 'watery.' And the mangoes usually take a couple of days to ripen, but are good. Prices on strawberries etc. are generally much better than in the big markets, and quality is good. There's usually one or two really good bargains on certain items, which changes periodically. I think most of these carts get produce from the same suppliers.

And fruits/veggies last more than "a day"! Plus, I'd rather pay 50 cents or a dollar for a piece or 2 of excellent fruit than $2-3 for a tiny sugar-laden "treat" that isn't even filling and can easily be made at home (in large quantities) for a fraction of the price.

I used to regularly buy apples, bananas, and bagged baby carrots which I've never had a problem with.

1 of each usually ran me 3 dollars which I thought was a steal.

Well, I have access to this super-secret new stealth technology called a "refrigerator"! Strawbs stay good for a few days, easily. The clue is to wash them off well when you buy them. Oh yeah, and plug it in. And close the door. Other fruit/veggies generally last longer, but you can buy in small quantities anyway. Who buys a stupid cupcake or tart and keeps it for days?

I wouldn't mind buying fruits from the carts but I would never buy the pre packaged ones from both carts and deli.

    fist-sized strawberries? mutant fruit.

never really ate fruit from the street stands but have basically grew up on chinatown fruits thanks to parental units. hit-or-miss for most parts but at least it's cheaper than supermarkets.
