if you like the asian kind (less sweet but so good!), you can likely get one from koryodang in ktown on 32nd st. id try calling first to make sure they have a whole cake available first though.

A little too late but Martha's Country bakery (locations in Bayside, Astoria, Forest Hills- Queens) has the BEST strawberry shortcake.
It has moist strawberry cake layers with jam filling paired with the lightest, most airy whipped cream ever! It is the shiz. Check it out. :)

I would take the #6 train to spring street and go to Ferrara's Bakery in Little Italy. I had a strawberry short cake from there years back and was great. Hopefully, it will still be as great. (#6 train is arround here. Isn't it?)
