Thanks for the help. Is licensing going to be my biggest hurdle?
-
Probably. There are only so many, but I'm not really sure about turnover of licenses. The guys that run SVP could probably help with your questions though.

Licensing is just going to be your first biggest hurdle. Then you have to deal with finding spaces every day that you can vend from. And the better the space is the harder it's going to be to hold on to it.
Make sure whatever it is you are selling can be made out of a truck in high volume. And the profit margins are enough to survive selling 100-200 orders a day. Also know that it's not a 9-5pm job. It's an 80+ hour a week job whether you plan to be on the truck or not.
And finally, like most businesses success will not come overnight. Make sure you have enough capital to last at least 6 months without every making a penny of profit.

Zach I appreciate your comments. I believe I do have a profitable product and hope to poll some sort of focus group before any money is invested just to make sure. I understand the time commitment as well, but licensing is going to really be my first big problem. If you have any suggestions on how I might be able to get around this hurdle please let me know.

You'll have to buy one illegally, the way everybody else does it! :-)

I understand I am part of a contingent of thousands of people but I do have a food truck idea that I believe will be a big success in new york city. I could use some guidance as to how I get started. Can anyone help? Thanks.
