Menchanko-tei is at 43-45 W 55 St
Tina's Cuban Cuisine is at 23 W 56 St, but I don't know if that's too chain-y or down-market. -
Yakitori Totto, Ma Peche and Katsu Hama are the first restaurants that come to mind.
However if you're not feeling like Asian food, Bills Bar & Burger is also good, but can get a bit crowded with tourists. Beacon also has an impressive burger and great wood fired pizzas to boot.

I've been working at 51st &7th for 8 years and have never been, BUT my Uncle swears by Lou's on 53rd & 6th (near the Imposter Cart).
Also, I haven't been in years but if in the mood for Italian, Pazza Notte on 6th bwtn 55th & 56th was good. -
If you have the time, go to Milos on 55th btwn 6th & 7th. They have a 3 course lunch pre-fixe (I think $24) and the food is top noch. Get the loup de mer.

There are numerous places that fit that description. You're really having trouble? Surely you have more parameters than that.

Thank you for the great suggestions. We went to Pazza Notte and got the $16.99 three course prix fixe. It was perfect. I will keep the other suggestions handy for next-time I am in the area.

I am meeting my husband for lunch tomorrow and I am having trouble finding an affordable (under $20 for an entree) sit-down restaurant that isn't too far from 53rd Street and 6th Avenue. Absolutely any type of cuisine, but definitely not a chain. Any suggestions? Thanks!
