Well, maybe we'll go to Newark Ave. for Indian... but I'd prefer something else.
-
Fatburger... I don't know if it's still there, but the last time I was there.. i had it at exchange place...
the only thing I can really think of that you can't get in the city..
oh yeah... panda express... if you get off newport (on the path), and make a right when you go out of the train station.. u cross the street and there is a mall... in the food court next to the theater, there is a panda express.
-
@sushiburger - haha. you know me so well... Panda Express is the back up plan. (we're actually going to the mall. might have to go either way, for a late afternoon snack.)

Friend who lives in Jersey City says the best pho in town is here: http://www.manta.com/coms2/dnbcompany_4pn84 http://www.yelp.com/biz/nha-trang-place-jersey-city

Last time I was in Jersey I ate at the Ocean County Jail the foods pretty bad but you also get a room and it's only 15 bucks a day.

The Brownstone Diner is fabulous, as is Ibby's Falafel. Beechwood Cafe is cute and lunchy; Milano's Deli does great Italian subs; La Rustique is my personal favorite for pizza. Taqueria do very tasty authentic tacos but take pride in their unfriendly service. Zeppelin Hall, the new beer garden, is fun if you want a drink with your lunch.
There's a great new torta truck by the Grove PATH but they're mainly there in the evenings.
I've heard rumors Fatburger is closing and about to be replaced by Five Guys.
-
I wholheartedly second FakeGreenDress's suggestion of Zeppelin Hall. Five dollars half liter mugs of good German beers, ten dollar liters. I don't think the full kitchen is open there yet but you can get really good grilled brats, wursts and burgers.
-
I third FakeGreenDress's suggestion. Beer and wursts are awesome, I suggest sampler plates.

When you're in Jersey City, you have to go for the Italian. (As someone who has lived in JC for a year & works in NYC, I feel justified in saying that our Italian food is superior.) Go to Rita & Joe's. Enjoy all of its red sauce glory.

If you're going to be eating in the mall, The Great Kahn is also a good option. Otherwise, Sawadee on Newark Ave has pretty good Thai. Formz' friend is also right about Nha Trang Place -really good.
A lot of people like The Little Sandwich Shop on Grove Street.

I've only been once and I wasn't that impressed, but I've been meaning to go back. -
you r all nuts!...mammouns is right off grove street path...and its better then the one in the village (same owner)...there is also village thai (amazing)and endless options in the mall.
-
The food at zeplin tastes what i imagine a german elementary school to taste like...its over priced and not great at all.
They use franks hot sauce for crying out...FRANKS!

If you get off on journal square there is India square with about 50 indian restaurants to choose from and a 5 guys.
I would Say go to Rasoi for Indian.
Sorry for the multiple posts....i suck at blogging.
-
If you're get off at JSQ, there are several Filipino turo-turo spots on Newark Avenue. Don't miss out on going to Red Ribbon and/or the Philippine Bread House
-
ooops...just noticed the date on this. oh well... >_<
-
We still don't know where you went Zach.
-
Haven't lived in Jersey City for about 3 years, so my information may be out of date.
I believe Samwich is mistaken about there being a Mahmoun's near Grove St. Ibby's is owned by the same family, as I understand it, and the food tastes pretty much the same as what you get on Macdougal or St. Marks; a fine option if you're in the area, but not worth visiting JC expressly for.
If Fatburger truly is doomed to be replaced by yet another Five Guys soon, then I must make another trip out there before that happens.
White Mana Hamburgers on Route 1/9 at Manhattan Ave is a must-visit, but only if you have a car. It's too inconvenient to try to get there by bus or by foot.

Rootbeer you are correct...i was wrong about the name...but thats the place i meant...sorry it was a 9am hungover post. haha

So, I'm going to be in Jersey City tomorrow around lunchtime. Anybody got any good suggestions? Don't mind spending more than $10. Just want something good... maybe even something you can't get in NYC (if that's possible?)
Not in the mood for Indian, but everything else is fair game. Any can't miss spots?
