I got delivery over the weekend.
Turkey pastrami was good. The order of fries I got was a lot smaller than usual. Not sure if the cook was lazy or they just serve smaller portions now.
-
i used to eat here all the time, no problems before... maybe they are going downhill now
-
Still worth it for that food.
-
So, brightersuns - do you work for 2nd Ave deli, the Stage Deli, or the Carnegie deli?
-
A few days ago, my friend and I saw a sign that the original owner was back. We tried it, and I must say, the items we had were great. The corn beef was tasty, the french fries were for real, and their new peanut butter chocolate cheese cake was out of this world.

This story has to be the biggest lie ever. The sandwiches are all handmade and sliced from behind the counter. There is no way anything could get into it. I eat there all the time and have never had a problem with the food. Everything is always great.
It is true that they are back under original ownership(they have a sign in the window), and if you haven't been in there in a while then you should check it out. The place looks great and the food is even better than before. I have no idea what brightersuns is talking about. He must work for a competitor and be upset because Sarge's food is better and is taking away their business!!

Although brightersuns story seems totally implausable. I suppose anything is possible. Remember the Wendys finger in the french fries hoax. All I know is I am new to midtown and am a pastrami nut and sarge's has the best pastrami I have ever had. I've tried other delis in the city and there not bad but sarge's was a life changing experience.

I think the biggest problem with the story here is that it appears brightersuns created an account solely to post this, has never posted or commented before this, and hasn't returned to respond to any of this since then nor responded to any other threads. While I hate jumping down people's throats and saying they're planted/shills/whatever, it does appear pretty fishy and suspect, especially in light of everyone else's positive comments & experiences. (I have never been to Sarge's and don't even know where it is, since I don't work in Midtown.)
Also "A rat was on my foot" - and you didn't move? Hello? If a rat even walked near me, I'd jump up on a chair or counter. Ick.
-
Anytime I find something to complain about here in the civilized part of the country, I simply tune into Midtown Lunch to read about the trials and tribulations of New Yawk City people who would rather eat pieces of metal in their sandwich and let RATS crawl all over their feet than:
LEARN HOW TO FIX A FRICKIN' SANDWICH FOR YOURSELF!!
You people are a piece of work.
-
DocChuck, you always make me laugh. Thank you.
-
nota - you mean at him, not with him, right?
-
I've never been to or heard of Sarge's Deli, but this thread is making me want to go there for some pastrami. So if brightersuns is trying to turn business away, he has failed miserablly.

Or, brightersuns is the smartest guerrilla marketer in the entire city! GENIUS!

My buddy had a pastrami sandwich from Sarge's (on 39th and 3rd) last week - which turned out to have a 1.5 inch piece of metal in it. He has been in the hospital for six days now (this is as of 6/15). I sent this note around my office, and a coworker goes "yeah last time I was there, there was a RAT on my foot".
So just FYI.
